Yeah take your points about Young - I think he will fit in well, and will do well under Fergie. He would have been great for Liverpool, but I'm still hopeful we will get a top signing despite no CL this season. In an ideal world I'd love to see Mata from Valencia, but would settle for Downing or N'Zogbia in that order if it didn't come off... V pleased with Henderson, expensive but a big talent even if not the finished article, and I wonder if we are a bit old fashioned with our fees now and whether 16-20m is what it just costs now for a talented english youngster. Mind you we didnt help matters with paying 10m over the odds on the final day for carroll. I'll be interested to see where Kenny plays him, I think he'll get played mostly on the right for a few seasons. Do you feel Nasri would be a good signing? I worry he has the slightly flaky Arsenel mentality already ingrained in him and not the Fergie last minute winner mentality that has served you so well recently...
Nasri will instantly have the correct mentality, because they have the manager to tell him straight that he's to go for it and not **** around.
Young better than Nani? Ah ok.....because you can clearly see it cant you. Young having a great record against big clubs, champions league experience and a proven international. Also I remember how he became to assist maker last season and has answered all his critics to prove a point. yeh i remember how young has done this... OH ****ING WAIT Hes not fit to lace nanis boots, nani has stated many times he loves it here and if you somehow need more proof, nani is a player who proved to fergie he was worth keeping when fergie was ready to get rid. Not many players have EVER done that. IDIOTS
I agree with you, perhaps with a bit less hostility. I understand why people are frustrated with Nani, god knows I'm one of them. And I believe that Nani is the better player, maybe not as consistant as Young but will he be able to spark like Nani can and produce some utter magic? Maybe. Hopefully he can. And I agree with you when you say how many people have convinced SAF they are worthy of staying when SAF was probably, as were most of us, at the end of their tether with Nani? The more I think about it, the more I'm warming to this Young transfer.
It was a little hostile wasnt it. Nani is a player I have huge amounts of respect for as hes not only proven to fergie that he is indeed a top class player, hes turned himself into the best winger in the league, one of the best players in Europe and is happy to play where hes told. he doesnt sulk, he doesnt moan he just does his job. How many right wingers will play left wing with as little hassle as Nani? Some of the rubbish people come out with about nani aswell. Hes selfish.......maybe people should listen to Fergie who says he is very happy he has a player like nani who will sometimes take matters into his own hands, be a little selfish in order to produce. Also how can a player who is the leagues top assist maker be that selfish? Hardly makes sense does it. Young is ok but he plays in one of the worst Villa sides in years. He hardly even stood out in it to be fair. Sure he will give options and make good back up but thats it. We are paying for the fact hes english and has PL experience not because of his ability. His ability alone is worth £5million. If we get Young, nasri or anyone else who I personally dont like, I will support them of course but until they are our players I will respect the ones we have above them.
Nani seems a completely different player and person to Ronaldo. He has his ego, don't get me wrong, but he knows his responsibilities and seems a more rounded player. And he is selfish, times too much, but you can't ever fault his commitment. Do you remember in the Bayern game last season at OT where he was playing up front on his own for most of the 2nd half, there was a moment when he chased down the ball towards the Bayern goal and won a corner, went to take it and almost keeled over in exhaustion. At that moment, I thought, he's grown up, he knows his responsibilities in this team and not just for that game. Conversely, Valencia is often too unselfish. I've found myself screaming at him plenty of times to go for goal and thought that if it was Nani in that position then perhaps he would have gone for goal. He is still young and with each season, Nani learns a bit more and that comprimise between his teamplay and selfishness will improve, it certainly has over his last few seasons. Some players are more talented than others and there has to be leeway to allow for certain players that can do things that others can't but at the end of the day it's up to the player to acknowledge the fact that the best results occur when the team is playing well.
I agree fully with that. At the end of the day we have the 2 best wingers in the country. Both of them have there strong and weak points. Both of them can provide strikers with many chances and both want to play for United.
Sneijder on the left? He is only an exceptional player when he is given a free role because his game isn't suited to anything else. At Madrid he was nowhere near as good as he is today because of being played out of position.
Young will play down the middle. Mark my words. Ferguson will have seen how he performs there for England and the impact he has. He is very versatile and will obviously be back up for the wings. I just cannot see Ashley Young signing for us to sit on the bench because he won't displace Nani and Valencia. I also think this will be it for the trasnfer window. If anybody comes in then it will be Modric. Nasri, I don't think he'll be coming. Wenger will not sell to a rival while weakening his own side.
He drifts out to the left all the time for Inter. If you look at positional stats, he notionally plays through the centre but picks up the ball on the left more often than on the right. When Inter beat Barca 3-1 he scored his first goal from the left wing, was out on the left for the second goal, and they played a very similar formation to the one I've put above. If we went for something like that, I could see Rooney, Sneijder and Young (for example) effectively switching positions with each other and moving around much like Pedro, Villa and Messi do for Barca, or Pandev and Sneijder did for Inter against Barca.
