I was going to write a thread on the Kinks - ****ing genius i'm telling you. The most under-rated band in Britain's history.

I only realised the other day that the Oasis tune "The Importance of being Idle" and it's video are a hat-tip to "Dead End Street" by the Kinks. I thought that was quite ironic as everyone says Oasis were obsessed with the Beatles... more like the 1960's when songs were MUCH better.

I love the music from the 60s and 70s. My friends all think I'm weird because I am only 28. I was definately born in the wrong decade.

Agree with you on this. Particularly Killing Joke because of personal preference. Would take ages to list the bands that have been directly infuenced by their music.

Added to which Jaz Coleman is a truly talented musician and composer. Check out his collaboration with Anne Dudley "Songs From the Victorious City" where they made an album of North African influenced music with local musicians from Cairo or listen to his classical arrangements. How many musicians are there that are so talented they can be one of the creators of post punk music, influence the creation of trash/hardcore metal and yet also be a classical cellist, composer and also conduct the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and be composer in residence for Prague, New Zealand and the EU.

Only my opinion but Killing Joke (and due to his overall influence on the band and beyond Jaz Coleman) are the most underrated band of all time.

Mate, I'm the same, yet I'm 20. I'm often being told by my mates that I'm better suited to be their dad's chum.

KJ are massively underrated, Jaz in particular. an enormously talented man, i always liken him to Roger Waters in his ability to diversify his musical abilities ( check out waters opera Ca Ira).

its all good people, lets hope one day these fantastic talents will receive the full credit they so richly deserve.
