Starting XI | Harness, Vennings, Keefe, Mingi, Stevenson, Quitirna, Dempsey, Powell, Clayden, Isiaka, Davison. Subs | Harvey, French, Odoh, Allsopp, Ocran. #cafc Currently 2-1 up against Crystal Palace. Goals from Isiaka and Dempsey.
Charlton, however, set about trying to restore parity and did so fairly swiftly as Johl Powell's cross towards the unguarded back post was nodded home by Kareem Isiaka, then in the second half the visitors took the lead when Ben Dempsey drove into the right of Palace’s box and rifled home for what turned out to be the winner. Finished 1-2 to Addicks
Dulwich Hamlet v Carlisle United ... tonight - 1st Round of the FA Cup - Live now on BBC2 Charlton player Ben Dempsey is in the Dulwich line-up, just signed on loan Slightly off-topic, but I didn't want to start a whole thread just to mention this. EDIT: I'm watching this game, and noticed that Dulwich Hamlet have those animated advertising screens (hoardings) all around their pitch. Where did they get the money to afford those? I thought a team had to get to the Premier League in order to get those installed for free. Or are Charlton the last Club that doesn't have them. DH also have FOUR big screens all in a row, at one end of the pitch
That explains it, but it's a bit "showbiz" isn't it? Why bother tarting their place up like that just for one fixture. Even if somebody is doing it for free. Or is it a case of the TV boys wanting the ground to look better than it normally does. And if so, why? Surely there is still more to football than twinkly lights and video screens.
Commercial, all those spots will be sold. My day job is advertising and I did a bit of sponsorship brokering a few years ago. I reckon the club won’t even get much of the money and it’s driven by the FA. There’s probably an official sponsor of the fa cup or something, and part of the deal will involve coverage at all televised games, if the club don’t have advertising spots available (because they’re all sold for the normal season) then they can bring in digital screens and run both the clubs advertising hoardings and the official sponsors on the same spot, rotating between brands every 20 seconds or something. It’s also why the big outdoor companies like JC Decaux have replaced nearly all paste billboards with digital ones. A digital screen can sell the same spot 6 times to different advertisers by changing ad every 10 seconds. Print/paste ones you can only sell to one advertiser.
The U-18's march on, winning away to Wham to reach the 4th round of the FA youth Cup on penalties after extra time. A great achievement. Hopefully after the takeover we really will be able to keep the Lookmans and the Gomez's.
