So there is a game tonight which wasn't shown on the academy or the official club website ? So it was a closely guarded secret after all ? I asked because I've had people who usually go and support them asking me. No-one could find a mention of this game anywhere. I find this disgraceful and someone at the club is not doing the basics here. Why is it seemingly beyond them to speak to the local media and let the fans know what is going on ?
We were playing Chalk Lane and we won 3-0. I assume the club don't promote the East Riding Senior Cup games, as when they did, they just got loads of abuse about where the final was held.
That's a poor excuse. If they told the real truth why the Final isn't held at the KComm anymore I'm sure reasonable people would understand. It was down to cost, and the ERCFA who organise this competition wouldn't meet them. The club (City) said they would stage the Final at cost price, simple as that but the ERCFA wouldn't pay up. As for the game last night, it should have been advertised, and fans ( who the club class as members) have a right to know. I would have liked to have gone last night but I couldn't find any information on the game anywhere. I wasn't the only one either. But thanks for the info on the result, I would have liked the heads up about the game before it actually kicked off too.
In a statement on the Bridlington Town AFC website, Peter Smurthwaite tells us he received an email confirming availability of the stadium for the final, yet the local FA could not afford for the cup final to be held there. Through hard work, and determination to set things right, Smurthwaite managed to raise the funds needed to get the game to go ahead. Then, in an unexpected turn of events, the East Riding FA contacted Smurthwaite to tell him the date is suddenly not available due to a miscommunication. For that reason the final would now be held at the East Riding FA’s own facilities on Inglemire Lane.
That's what I said. The KComm was available but the ERCFA wouldn't cover the costs of their own cup competition final. The ERCFA are also sat on a pot of many, many thousands of pounds and have been doing so for a lot of years with the pot increasing and very little to spend it on. There was even a suggestion during the very worse days of Hull City that the ERCFA could actually afford to buy the club themselves. The contact between the ERCFA and Pete Smurthwaite and the subsequent cancelling of their final goes a bit deeper then a miscommunication. None of which excuses City for not informing their members ( fans) of the game on Tuesday night at the Roy West ground. It was a local cup competition and deserved a level of support. But sadly it is a lack of interest that we now expect and shows little sign of ever improving if we all just accept it for what it is and in my eyes that it is an arrogant disregard of club and fans.
Staging any game in the stadium occurs costs. Who do you know who works for free ? The SMC made the stadium available if the ERCFA, who's cup final it was, met the costs. There was no profit sought.
You would expect it to be more likely that a "community stadium" would give free use of the stadium than a private one.
The use of the stadium was free, it was the cost of the staff who have to be there which costs the money because you have to pay people these days and games cannot take place without an army of stewards, etc. So someone picks up the bill, in our case it's the SMC. Every community event in community premises occurs costs and they are usually met by the ratepayers. Organise a 5 a side kick about on a community pitch and see if you get that for free. Also open the doors for one local cup final and every cup final of every sport will demand the same privilege as long as though someone else is picking up the bill. It's not as though the ERCFA couldn't afford to meet the costs of their own cup final either..
Almost all major clubs host their local FA Cup Final, we're the very much on our own with this, Stoke City host the Staffordshire FA Senior Cup Final, Middlesbrough host the North Riding FA Senior Cup Final, Sheffield United host the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA Senior Cup Final etc, etc, etc...
You know very well what the difference is. We don't own the stadium and we share it with another code. It is council owned and the relationship with said council and the SMC isn't exactly cosy and probably never will be. If I owned the stadium and the club and I would let the local senior cup final take place for free with a small admission at the turnstiles to cover the staffing costs which you have to have these days. But I don't. Likewise the Allams don't own the stadium. The simple facts are the ERCFA are quite capable of meeting the costs which occur when using the KComm for their own cup final. I don't see what the problem is.
And good for them but the difference with us is if we allow one cup final and don't charge costs we are wide open to stage every other cup final, and we play a lot of rugby league around here, who would rightly demand the same privilege. Because it is a community stadium which we share, but you cannot hide from the facts that every game played on there occurs costs. Someone gets a bill.
Just excuses for the shabby actions of the owners, we made a £20m profit last season and a £35 profit the year before, the cost of staging the event is a piss in the ocean, which is why every other club agrees to do it. And the costs were offered in full last season and they still wouldn't host it.
