A good 3-1 win from the U23 against Nottingham Forest. Charlton put out a strong side with Baeur and Lennon both playing in central defence. Charlton took the lead when skipper Kennedy converted a cross from Holmes- Dennis. We went into a two goal lead when a shot was deflected onto the underside of the bar and Baeur headed home. In the second half Forest came more into the game but we held firm. Lennon was taken off after sixty minutes to be replaced by Jordan Bowry, and we increased our lead when Hanlon headed in after a good run and cross from Holmes- Dennis. Forest got a consolation goal in injury time. Good displays all round from the two full backs Barnes and Holmes- Dennis who were constantly pushing forward. Baeur, who played 90 minutes and Lennon were rock solid. Aribo in central midfield always impresses me with his tight control and surging runs forward. Phillips Barnes, Baeur, Lennon ( Bowry, Holmes- Dennis, Kennedy, Muldoon, Aribo Ahearne- Grant, Umerah, Hanlon Subs Mitov, Djikisteel, Bowry, Charles- Cook,Carter
Can't understand it??? Charles-Cook was in and around first team last season in Championship, Arsenal were sniffing around.... then this season???? Nowhere? Has he gone backwards or is he coming back from injury?
He is coming back from injury All Hell, I think it will take a few more games before he is up to full speed.
THD - someone who I thought would be in the first team, but it appears they've given up trying him at left wing?
How was Phillips, Dickp? Last time I saw him was ages ago, when he looked like a Deano in the making, ie terrific shot-stopper, tended to stay on his line, distribution his weakest point. It sounds like he didn't have a lot to do?
Dillon was very solid, he didn't have a lot to do but organised the defence well. I presume that Declan Rudd is fit for Saturday's game. Because I don't think Dillon would have played otherwise.
Learning his trade then. . It's the usual conundrum though, if our players show exceptional ability, as with Pope, we don't get to see the best of them.
DickPlumb, there is a thread from 2016 about our U23 squad (one that you created in fact) that has some interesting historical comments on it. Would you mind if I merged the two threads? Your post above would still be present as the most recent one made...
