No they are not both "Acceptable" because it is a gross generalisation and a manipulation of the facts so it seems I will have to explain it by using an analogy and some "facts". If several hundred Celtic fans from a crowd of 60,000 were chanting offensive songs, would it be accurate for someone to claim that "the Celtic fans" were singing offensive songs? Of course it would'nt, so by the same reasoning it would be wholly inaccurate to claim that two soldiers showed the video to "The regiment", that suggests that they showed it to the whole Regiment. There is no suggestion that they showed it to anyone apart from a few colleagues that they thought might find it amusing/erotic/whatever,and as I would have expected, this sort of thing would be frowned upon by most decent human beings,and promptly reported to the authorities - which is exactly what happened incidentally. A "Regiment" for your information could be as few as 500 men, or in the case of the Infantry (which the Mercians are) a Regiment could be composed of 3 batallions of 800 men (2,400 men in total). So you have implied that the alleged video may have been shown to upwards of 2,400 men, not only wrong but completely misleading, unless you are suggesting that they showed the video on a giant screen or in a multiplex cinema which would hold that amount of people? And further, even if they had shown it to the brigade of Guards it could hardly be argued that such behaviour was "rife".
