Well for a fact i know the tower apartment and quadrant bus station Electrical was done by Cardiff based firms and the last dry docks venture(i beleive there is a new group now,but not sure) was by Harris pye group,Barry, cardiff.
try Manchester and leeds as i was talking to the men working on them projects and they use to use the same club i uses and thats how i know. there might be sub contractors used as i saw cranes with cardiff names on them, also there is posters up in west cross about a new housing estate to be built on the common here, 1,500 houses, shops and a pub and the contract to do all that work comes from Manchester......very little big contacts goes to local companies....
There is a reason for that though, work is put to tender, if local companies are not competitive its not going to go to a local company, also these works are by private companies and nothing to do with the council so they choose who they want to do this work. And are any local companies big enough to do the SA1 development alone, are any company big enough? They are put to contractors mostly, these contractors give prices etc on work, there are lot of local companies in these large contracts, I know as my brother's one was involved.
Yes Jager you are correct, the quadrant bus station and the tower went to the cheapest Electrical contractors ,they are both bankrupt now actually my point was more to with the Bry dock project than the contracts mentoned by Dai
