Surely we can all agree that the world was a fairer, more civilised, compassionate and well run place when britain ruled over most of it as an empire ? Thats what the world is crying out for again.

I agree, it's time we stop being the 51st US state, and forge our own path in the world again. Libya was a start, we got involved long before the americans, but the french (suprisingly) did most of the heavy lifting.

The USA is just an offshore franchise, we wrote the rules that they cling onto today

Whether they call them a "fiver" or not isn't really the point though, it is still an extension of the number "five", hence, it could still be used anywhere in the world where they have denominations with "five" in it.(which would be pretty much everywhere!)

Another sign of decay was when the Aussies swapped from the pound to the dollar. It shows their allegiances, and for that, i hope they all die of heat stroke.

The UK would be better off forming a stronger allegience with Canada than the USA in my opinion.

Canada isn't a strong enough country to make an impact on the world stage unlike the other world powers

Also, the Canadian dollar was stronger than the US one not so long ago, although, I shouldn't think it is now though, but to say that it would be better to be "pals" with Canada as opposed to the USA is crazy. For starters, they are joined at the hip!

Our influence on the world stage has been declining continually since WW2, but it's arguable that our sense of our own importance has not kept pace. Recently we've punched above our weight in Iraq and Afghan, but the extent of our commitment in these sort of conflicts is no longer sustainable, especially in the light of cuts in the defence budget.

Imo we should give up on Trident, as we do not need an independant nuclear deterent, and clearly can't afford it. The money saved could be diverted to sustaining our conventional forces.

I believe that Blair was on a crusade to save civilians from their evil oppressors

I really think that is what he thought

He was happy to do it in kosovo and brought peace to norn iron

I believe Bush thought he was also some kind of heroic Texas Ranger saving the wretched

Unfortunately the world isn't so black and white

I agree Blair carried aaway with a vision of himself as the saviour of the oppressed and the scourge of tyrants. There's no oil in Kosovo or Sierra Leon, and in Afghan there is absolutely f**k all, just a few rocks and goats.
