40% of expats living in Spain have returned to the UK since 2007. I expect many in France have also turned their backs on living there with others unable to sell their properties. I know sterling's temporary drop in value has affected many on the breadline, although it will recover strongly once the Brexit hassle has passed.

You don't remember me telling you that the estate agents are working overtime with the number of Brits buying property out here? They are getting out in case it all goes pearshaped. They do not want to be part of your little country isolated from the real world.

Many are buying holiday homes from those poor souls whose properties have lost value. There are reasons why property is cheap in rural France, the main one being lack of demand from the locals due to lack of employment.

Do not stay under the illusion that the Britons living in the EU. are all pensioners who retired and bought a house there SH. This is an illusion - the vast majority of British ex pats are of working age and are working in their adopted countries. This is even the case in Spain - so, the long and the short of it is that they mostly left for work.

Like lots of EU nationals the lack of jobs in France, Spain Italy etc leads them to where jobs are plentiful, the UK. The UK should run training programmes on job creation for the benefit of other EU governments.

Those wishing to work abroad will need to convince the prospective country of their qualities, EU or non EU. It will be the same for the UK to decide on who it wishes to grant work opportunities to. This is quite normal for the rest of the world outside of the EU.

Have you already forgotten our previous discussion about waiting for the ERG group's alternative plan which better reflects the government's long held red lines.

No I haven't forgotten. The ERG are a minority faction within a minority government. You forget that the red lines have gone in the desperate need to keep the country afloat.

The ERG group represent most Conservatives and millions of Labour supporters. The Chequers deal will not get through parliament.
 
The Chequers deal probably won't get through Parliament, but there is even less chance of a no deal getting through. Total gridlock, so what then? A general election, or another referendum. The former could change the party in power. Do not forget that some 30 plus Tories are sitting on water thin majorities. I cannot see Labour supporters voting for a Mogg or Johnson if there is a chance to get this lot out. The other option if the polls are to be believed would see the whole thing called off depending on the question. Whatever way you look at it the government is in a mess.
