I agree that perspectives of left and right depend on where we stand on the spectrum Frenchie. They also change through time which is why the policies of social democratic parties from the 50s and 60s appear now as far left, whereas at the time they were more central. Also older definitions of far left and far right address only the question of ownership of the means of production and little else. The question of what we mean by 'far left' is relatively straightforward - the question of 'far right' isn't. Do we mean, by the latter, the disciples of Hayek and the Vienna School of Economics ? Thatcherism, the small state. What we conveniently call neo liberalism or that the free market regulates everything ? This is what I understand by 'far right'. Racism, by contrast, can occur anywhere on the political spectrum.

There is no infiltration of the Tory Party so why pretend there is? The only movement away from the Tories in the last couple of weeks was due to May's failed attempt to sideline the Brexit Secretary in favour of a weak, soft Brexit. This is also the reason why very few people have faith in her ability to get a good deal. It is obvious now we must withdraw her offer and plan for a no deal, no payment of bribe and therefore trade on WTO rules.

Comrade Corbyn clearly prefers Brexit and will highlight the benefits later today.

 

I agree that infiltrating the Conservative Party is very difficult. Some from the BNP have tried it, along with holocaust deniers and other odd bods. But the truth is that anyone under 80 who is not wearing the 'club' moustache is treated with suspicion.

The EU Withdrawal Bill passed into law last month will have to be amended before it even comes into force. As it stands the statute book would fail to function, so no withdrawal now before end of 2021. Dominic Raab All that detailed debate about having the date of withdrawal on the face of the bill was a waste of time. The government should listen to the common sense that comes out of the Lords from time to time.

 

Do you mean the facts that have underlined the Tories dominance of UK politics for the last eight years and look set to continue for another four.? The EU intransigence and insistence of the UK being seen to obtain a bad deal has made things appear tricky. The government needs to fully employ one of the many Brexiteers with backbone to take over the negotiations. There are a very few problem Tories who would like to undermine the result of the referendum but hopefully these wreckers can be ignored.

The Labour Party seem to be well divided, Corbyn's speech today will certainly annoy all 'remainers' relying on him to help halt Brexit. He will only oppose the government if there is the slightest chance of Labour getting into power.

The victorious Tory government was elected on a Brexit platform as was the second place Labour Party. The political parties that struggled electorally were the 'remain' parties, Lib Dems Greens and the SNP. So Brexit was popular with the electorate.

Oddballs like Grieve and Soubry will soon be forgotten after Brexit, hopefully their constituents will deal with their undemocratic behaviour.

We all know about the roundabout of the two party election system that we call democracy in the UK. Most likely if the Labour party sort themselves out they will get in for a parliament or two....

 

The Tories are running the country because they gained most seats and most votes. The alternatives to the two Brexit favouring parties were firmly rejected by the electorate. There is no sign whatsoever of the LP 'sorting themselves out', they have a simmering internal war being raged. It makes the Tories look extremely united.

Obviously there is a majority of people like me who keep voting Conservative. The Labour Party is a divided mess and the Lib Dems cannot convince anyone to support them.

There was a majority of people like me who voted for Brexit.

You always seem to be in a minority.

 

I take it that as Raab is now responsible for organising stockpiling of food, he will now be known as the Minister for Spam.
