I wonder who Southgate thinks he is trying to con. In the Austria game he had Kane playing way too deep so there was no chance of him scoring. If he plays in the hole in the Euros we will be out after three games with England not scoring 4 goals, let alone Kane.

Not sure I would be too keen on Benzema and Ronaldo both scoring 4 goals. France and Portugal are in the same group with Germany. One of those three teams may only be playing three games. France also have Mbappé and Griezmann so 20/1 looks a bit short with Benzema.

Since all three cannot make the Final, 4 goals in 7 matches (maximum 6 for one of them) looks a bit of a tall order. If England win Group D, then they play the runner-up from Group F, which could be France or Portugal so somebody is only playing 4 games. If England are runner-up in Group D, then they could play the winner of Group F in the Quarter Final so somebody is only playing 5 games.

If England were in a 4-4 draw with Scotland there would be an own goal by the Jocks, Phil Foden from eight yards, Mason Mount would have hit one from twenty yards, Harry Kane would have got a penalty and Kyle Walker would be in trouble having been seen in a hotel with one of the Jock WAGs. <laugh>

But I'm the one fronting the prize money, Mick, so it won't cost you chaps a penny (not unless Monny comes through with the programme).

There was a long article in the Telegraph yesterday where two data journalists crunched the numbers to work out who was going to win the Euros and the statistics that actually mattered.

    So a quick summary:

FIFA World Rankings mean nothing. In the last 18 World Cups only Brazil in 1962 were top ranked. Three of the top ranked teams have won the Euros in the last six tournaments. Five of the last six winners of the Euros have been ranked in the top four in the tournament, so that gives us Belgium, France, England and Portugal.

No team has won the Euros after qualifying through the play-off system.

No winner of the Euros has lost more than two games qualifying. Belgium won 10 of 10 but England, France, Germany and Spain meet the criteria.

The average age of the winning squad was 26. England average 25, France average 27 and Belgium average 29.

Having a squad with lots of players from a few clubs has been successful. Spain had Barcelona/Real Madrid cohorts and Germany had Bayern Munich. This year Holland have five from Ajax and Germany have eight from Bayern but Belgium have players from across Europe.

The managers that have won the last eight Euros had an average of 17 years management experience. Not good for Gareth Southgate but good for Didier Deschamps (France), Joachim Low (Germany) and Roberto Mancini (Italy).

In American Football they say “Defence wins Championships”. The last eight winners of the Euros conceded less than a goal a game. So who has a strong defence? England and Germany look suspect while Belgium and Italy look old. France on the other hand have an embarrassment of riches.

They concluded that France would be lifting the silverware and Turkey look a good dark horse for the final.

There is another article saying that Czech Republic will beat Denmark 3-2 in the final. I can't see that happening to be honest.

I’ve been doing some calculations too and the algorithm has predicted the final as:
    England 4 France 0
