Philip Buckingham @PJBuckingham #hcafc's 2-1 win over Millwall sets up a play-off away to Charlton next week. Winners then face Sheff Wed or Millwall in the final.
Just back from the game, Millwall put out what looked an experienced side, with 4 players looking as if they were 1st teamers. First half was pretty even, though City grew into the game as the half wore on, and took the lead, just after Barkworth had met a cross from left and hit it on the half volley and the keeper made a good save. City broke and good work from Hinchliffe and Edwards (the Welsh trialist) combines well to set up Annan who finished smartly. 1-0 City and it stayed that way until HT. Second half Millwall did try to push forward to find the equalizer but found it hard to get passed City defence of McKenzie and Ritson who were solid at the back. However Millwall forced a corner against the run of play and got the equalizer, corner from the left was headed back into the danger area and Milwall's 7ft number 9 poked it home. City then picked up the tempo and started to push Millwall back, both Annan and Barkworth had good chances to score, both putting the shots just wide of the post. With time running out City's pressure finally told, a raid down the right and a good hard low cross into the 6 yd box was turned into the net by Millwall's right back in the 88th minute. City saw the game out comfortably, and justice prevailed and they got the win they needed. Dan Batty was excellent, he controlled the mid field and was by far the best player on show. Marco's 2 side kicks were watching, as was Josh Tymon.
Apologies if this has been resolved before, but if City win the Play Offs, are they promoted? Or are clubs 'elected' to the top division based on their youth set up?
Good piece... Progression of Hull City's academy continues at pace as Under-23s bid for trophy success http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/prog...0308152-detail/story.html#uZqTKGFsCDvVZwjM.99
I believe there's only promotion/relegation between the top two leagues for Cat One academies, in Cat Two we're just competing to win the league title and trophy.
Love to read that but can't, my iPad just will not load that ****ty site, not even in read only mode!
It was two years ago this month that Hull City's academy received the news that had been waiting the best part of a decade for. No longer would they be playing the likes of Grimsby, Lincoln and Mansfield each season, the Tigers would be moving up in the football world. Granted category two academy status in May 2015, the importance and value of City's youth set-up has gradually been transformed. The first anniversary of an upgrade was almost celebrated in style when narrowly beaten by West Ham United in the Premier League Under-21s Cup final last season but now the Tigers have another shot at silverware this month. Qualifying for the Professional Development League play-offs thanks to yesterday's 2-1 win over Millwall, City's youth ranks have the chance to end another progressive campaign on a high. "It's a massive thing," said Jon Beale, head of City's academy. "To get to the Premier League Cup final last season was big after a good season in the league but this is progress again. It shows that we can compete at this level. .text-links-grid .videoCube { height: 4.7em; } .text-links-grid .trc_rbox_header_span, .trc_spotlight_widget .trc_rbox_header_span { font-family: 'verb_regularbold',Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 18px; margin-left: 10px; } .text-links-grid { margin-top: 20px; width: 100%; } "It's huge for the academy, as much as it is for the club. There's been a big investment made over the last three years and it's important not only to see players like Josh Tymon and Jarrod Bowen moving into the first-team, but also to see progress in the academy. The predictor is back! Can Hull City stay up or will Swansea City make a late dash for survival? "To reach the play-offs in our second year (as a category two) academy, I'm delighted if I'm honest." If an academy is judged as much upon its graduates as its results, City can already toast another bright year. Tymon and Bowen have both played Premier League football – not to mention starting the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final at home to Manchester United – while Greg Olley also made his first-team debut in August. Elsewhere, Max Clark, Harvey Rodgers, Josh Clackstone and Jonathan Edwards have all spent extended spells out on loan in League Two. That has brought challenges to Beale, who inherited the role of academy boss from long-standing friend Tony Pennock in October, but City's under-23s have responded well. Winning 15 of their 28 Professional Development League games, only Sheffield Wednesday could boast a better points total in the northern section. Then there was a win away to Manchester City in the Premier League Cup in December, another run that was only by a penalty shoot-out defeat to Liverpool in March. "I'm not surprised to see us where we are," added Beale. "Whether we were category three two years ago or category two now, there's good players here. The lads are really starting to progress now. "I've not had players like Josh Tymon, Greg Luer, Jarrod Bowen and Brian Lenihan for every game this season and there's not been times where we've lost players to the first-team for their preparations. "That's great for all those boys but it's meant we've had to push kids up from the under-18s. Every single one of them has done a job. That's a really pleasing aspect. It shows they're capable of making the step up as well. There's a lot of local lads in the team so it means a lot for them to play for the club. I told them before the game that we should come away with what we deserve. I feel we've been the best team in the league." More news: Silva linked with return to homeland by Portuguese media Now comes the chance to prove it. The dramatic win over Millwall yesterday will see City travel to the Valley next week for a play-off semi-final against a Charlton side that topped the southern section. Getting past the Addicks would then set up a final against either Millwall or Sheffield Wednesday, who play next Monday. "We've achieved nothing yet but reaching the play-offs is a little something," added Beale. "I want to go to Charlton and win next week. We've done it once this year and we want to do it again. There's silverware on the line now. We're two games away from winning a Premier League trophy. To do that would be something special. "Charlton, Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday are three good teams but we've beaten all three this season. There's no reason why we can't achieve something special." Good news this, Dan Batty signs new 2 year deal, was outstanding yesterday as I reported, best player on show. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/hull...wo-year-deal/story-30310154-detail/story.html

Lets not forget all those on here who didnt want us to get this and sided with a load of trampoliners and roller derby freaks.
The progression of the Academy is one of the few things I'm happy to praise the Allams for, but they still handled the Airco debacle really badly.
They could have easily done it another way to get the Cat 2 status, but they chose the easy option which inconvenienced many. However credit to the Allam's for investing in the Academy, this is one thing they did right, and the move to B. Burton was a very good move.
DEVELOPMENT SQUAD TO FACE CHARLTON IN PLAY-OFFS Hull City AFC's Development Squad will travel to Charlton Athletic in the Professional Development League play-off semi-finals. As a result, the young Tigers will travel to the winners of the Southern Section, The Addicks, for a place in the final. The tie will take place at The Valley on Monday 8th May, with a kick-off time of 7pm. Ticket details for this fixture are yet to be confirmed.
