. Sunderland AFC Under-21s picked up a vital three points on the road with a 2-1 victory over Arsenal in the Premier League 2. Timur Tutierov opened the scoring before Nathan Butler-Oyedeji equalised for the hosts early into the second half. 16-year-old Marcus Neill entered the fray as a late substitute to find the net and confirm the win at Meadow Park. Graeme Murty named Harrison Jones as his solo frontman with the support of Tutierov and Rhys Walsh. Under-18 scholars; Neill, George Bell, Charlie Dinsdale and Felix Scott all made the bench. Tutierov, who returned to the starting 11 following an injury spell on the sidelines, gave the Lads the perfect start, slotting the ball past Lucas Nygaard to take the lead after just five minutes. Ben Middlemas almost doubled the advantage with a speculative effort from the halfway line going narrowly wide. The Gunners continued to press and had their equaliser moments after the second-half restart, striking past Dan Cameron. Despite the dominance from the home side, Harrison Jones went close, rattling the crossbar from close range as the game entered its final third. The tie was nicely set up for a side to grab a winner and it was U18 scholar, Neill who came off the bench to be the unlikely hero. The Australian youth international tucked home an 85th-minute rebound to ensure the three points returned to Wearside. Sunderland now leapfrog Arsenal into eighth and will return to action in the new year. SAFC: Cameron, Lavery, Bell, Johnson, Anderson, Jenson Jones, Lenz (Neill 75), Middlemas, Walsh, Harrison Jones Unused subs: Chibueze, Scott, G.Bell, Dinsdale
Think i've said this before but I can’t wait until we are playing Neil, Neill and Neild in the same lineup Futures bright. Excellent win.
Marcus Neill son of Australian international fullback Lucas Neill (Blackburn, West Ham etc). I reckon our Neill is eligible for England, Australia and Ireland.
TM reckons he hasn't been fielded in any competition since March 2023. Couldn't find anything online to suggest he has a long term injury.
Yeah I couldn't find anything about him He will share the odd story on his Instagram but it's nothing about him playing football
