Well, that's what he looks like yeah, sort of a bit like Ritchie from Bottom. I don't know why he's doing anything with the first team because he's done **** all with the one he's got...
Yeah when I last spoke to him he was genuinely considering going part time. Which is a shame because in terms of technique he’s well up there for talents the club has produced. Be interesting if any of the second year pros will be kept on. Leake, no idea, but he’s always been the pick of the bunch. But Jacob has got a deal so who knows…
Yeah, he has. I see him sometimes doing drills with the first-team during the warm-ups and didn’t know who he was (I assumed just a member of the coaching staff). I think Sellars just looks similar from a distance.
Would you be comfortable expanding on this, ST? Do you mean staff under the Allams have been unfairly ‘purged’ under Acun’s ownership? Or am I off the mark?
It could be Ben Tempest, he was brought in from Derby by McCann. He's a fitness coach. He's got an easy job with this squad he only has to manage about 10 players at a time.
No, Beale left in 2020. He was promoted after Pennock left for the first team. This was before Acun. He's now the manager of Swansea's youth set up and the manager of the first team at Swansea University (who play in the second tier of the Welsh League, or at least they did until they were relegated). I'm told he's very happy.
From what it sounds like, we need someone coaching our under-21s who is a role model but also an authority figure who is willing to push them. Sellars isn’t that. As someone who also works in education, I’m sure ST will agree that teachers who try to have banter with students and have favourites doesn’t necessarily create a good learning environment. Whether it’s teaching or coaching, you can have a good rapport whilst still maintaining clear boundaries.
Jarvis we should be for sure. Nixon has had a great loan at Boston. Leake is good too. The others probably on the balance should move on.
Jarvis going really is a shock to me. I was always under the assumption his progression for us would be similar to KLP’s and he had the ability and attitude to break into the first team.
Surely if Rosenior and Walker wanted Jarvis he'd be part of the 1st team though. They took him and played him in Turkey. It seems crystal clear that Sellars needs to go but I'd just question why Jarvis isn't a member of the 1st team by now
I mean, it's relative to who we're looking to bring into the first team and also for what purpose they'd be kept on. As it stands, none of the U23s about to be released are anywhere near the first team, with the possible exception of Chadwick who is almost certainly going to stay at Boston. You could make a case for him being used as a sub, but his fitness is and always has been his biggest issue and for somebody as talented as him to have been blighted by injury is a real shame. Matty Jacob did have a good season at Gateshead last year and I assume he was kept around after injuries to Elder, Coyle and Christie. But then, with those three fit, is he going to feature? Then add Fleming into the mix, it's not very likely is it? Jarvis will probably make it as an EFL player, he reminds me a bit of Ryan Fallowfield who had to do the hard yards with Ferriby and Harrogate before getting his chance to play in League Two. He's done well at York this season. You could make a case for David Robson, but he's hardly pulled up any trees at Crawley and given the talent that's both in front of and behind him, he'd be better off looking elsewhere. It strikes me that the owners want our younger players to be good enough to one day play in the first team and aren't holding onto players that won't ever achieve that. I think they've seen Greaves, Bowen, KLP come and go and thought "unless they're going to do that and make us money, what's the point?" There are so many differentials and factors in football, I don't know why that approach is taken but it's quite cutthroat and given that some young lads get released and then go on to have brilliant careers (cough, Deano, cough), it might not be the most efficient.
Precisely, the overfamiliar approach creates a "mates" environment, if you don't have boundaries, you don't have control and it gets messy very quickly, I've seen it happen before. What Sellars lacks is experience in the modern game; Dawson could speak for days about coming to City in the bottom division, playing against the likes of Ronaldo and Rooney, scoring a long range free kick against Everton and helping out with youngsters like KLP and Batty. Sellars can hardly recreate that experience with 14 games at Harrogate ****ing Railway can he?
I don't know how things work at the club, the hierchy and such like but isn't anyone speaking on behalf of the lads sakes? Isn't anyone mentioning how they feel to someone higher up than Sellars? It needs sorting if only for the lads sake never mind the club.
That's him on the academy staff icon... https://www.wearehullcity.co.uk/club/academy/ Though he doesn't actually appear when you click the link to an out of date page. I think John Anderson is still involved with the 21s, he strikes me as someone who has been there and would command respect. Watching the game yesterday, Sellars just stood there half watching the game - then again, I took a similar view of Beale on the touchline when he was here so maybe that's not a good indication of quality!
It is very cut-throat but it’s also how a lot of clubs do it. What makes it weird is that we’ve tied Callum Jones and Matty Jacob down to longer deals despite them being in their early 20s and never been close to breaking through to the first team bar a few occasions being named to the bench when we have injuries and the odd cup appearance. Covil before his injury and Vaughan have come straight in as teens and gotten minutes but what do the coaching staff and the club see in Jacob and Callum Jones to warrant contract extensions? At their age, they need to be starting games somewhere if not here.
Is Ollie Green at the end of his deal and will he be kept on? Wasn’t he supposed to be pipped to break into the first team as well?
Not sure what to think about this info tbh Is this sellars bringing in the vaughans and covils who go straight into the first team almost, is he saying the academy lads aren’t good enough cos surely it’s still rosenior or shotas decision to promote them ?? It’s poor pastoral care if they aren’t supporting Jarvis etc with a new club I don’t know anything about other lads only what my scarb supporting mate tells me And johno greening was on the phone constantly to try and get Jarvis back and nothing doing from city. So basically he’s been kicking his heels
