I understand Mr Khan was at yesterday's game. No idea whether he was there in anticipation of welcoming the new man or to take over negotiations. Whichever, I do hope he has stern words with Mike Rigg.
1. Curbishley had taken the first team for the 10 days after Kit left, yet 2 days before the MK Dons match Rigg put Grant in charge. Grant had been nowhere near the first team before that; he was with the Academy (we know this from the Steve Wigley video and Grant's own interview following the U21s mid-week game). Is it any wonder the team looked lost at times yesterday? That change by Rigg was not only ludicrous, it showed a complete lack of understanding in team dynamics.
Moreover, Rigg's decision not to name Curbishley as Caretaker Manager from the outset was downright petty.
2. Rigg's announcement that we wanted a Head Coach rather than a Manager, in an attempt to show strength and purpose, was badly mis-judged. He may well have convinced Khan that was what was needed, but it should have been part of private negotiations not aired publicly and giving advanced warning. That faux pas has cost us dearly in many ways.
Mr Khan should now declare that following a review with Mike Rigg, he has decided that:
* we were wrong in our expectations of a Head Coach and would now be seeking a Manager, with First Team Squad responsibility;
* Alan Curbishley would be Caretaker Manager.
