Im not getting into this either, but Racist is the wrong word.....a race of a human being, is defined by their racial heritage i.e black, Asian, White, Hispanic......so therefor the sterotypes or mick taking of the welsh are nothing more than humorous Xenophobia at best.

If you find that offensive, then you guys certainly need thicker skin!

Your prerogative, dude. Sorry you feel that disliking one piece by somebody means you can never read anything else by the same person, but hey ho. For what it's worth, the user name comes from the name of the blog, which came first. It was going to be mainly a photo blog, taking pics of the England I see around me every day. Hence the name. I just never changed it when I started to write about QPR and other stuff. The connections between the different bits of the UK are complicated and interesting. I'm pretty open-minded about whether the UK needs to hold together as one nation state or whether the various other countries besides England could or should go their own way. Up to them, I guess. I'm not a nationalist or even a patriot, and I don't live in an Anglo-Saxon family.

For me, the odd thing about your reaction is trying to work out what you're reacting to. Jokes/comments about the oddity of Wales having a separate FA but having 2-3 teams in the English league are two-a-penny and will probably always crop up for as long as the situation persists. It doesn't seem a lot different to the north-south stuff that gets thrown around between supporters of clubs in our part of the England and clubs from Yorkshire and the NW. Football is tribal and people think up vaguely tribal stuff to sing about and write on messageboards and whatnot. Am I supposed to be mightily offended by the things I hear from Welsh fans or anyone writing all of us off as "Cockneys" etc.? Pffffffttttt. It's meaningless. Anyway, my attempt at satire clearly failed, but that was always the risk, I guess.

I agree with this Frank except the last sentence and I certainly wouldn't call it humorous.

I've a mate from Newcastle (although with a Southern accent as he moved down when he was young) and he has told me a number of times the bad vibes and sometimes outright vitriol he received when he lived in Wales, simply because he was English. I can't understand why they would be like that and its very bad form.

However, if you guys see demeaning Wales as not even a Country as just humorous banter, then I'm afraid you're no better than the anti-English Welsh morons.

Just my opinion though and I respect yours and everyone else's.

I dont agree with the views of the article and maybe humourous was the incorrect word.......but its hardly anything to cry about.....if I read a similar article about the English from a Welshman or a Scottsman I would laugh at it.

Personal Xenophobic attacks/abuse if you are living in another counrty is a whole different story.

Thanks for the explanation mate, I may have jumped the gun a wee bit. (By the way, I never get offended. Its great to have all sorts of opinions flying about <ok>)

I suppose, for me, there's a difference between slagging regions of one Country (Cockneys, Scousers etc) and lumping an entire Nation in together. Put simply, I can see why the Welsh might find it a bit arrogant that's all.

Thanks also for the explanation of your Username. Like I said, I think I might have jumped the gun . I'll certainly continue to read your insightful and well-written pieces.

Hard to disagree with that Frank lad. To be fair, I don't think TIME meant anything by it. He's a good bloke.

The Swansea fan should retract the racist allegations though. At most its a misunderstanding.

Indeed....the race card is so easily pulled out these days, even when it is completely out of place and irrelevant to the given context.

"stop being an idiot!" (nobody cares)......."omg he was racist" (everyone grabs their pitchforks)

Changing it from racism etc which is not a funny thing and although subtle can be taken this way reading your article.

The quotes taken from JB were not a dig at QPR and have been taken out of context... I noticed you didnt put in the quotes saying he missed playing, wishing the lads good luck and afer the defeat that QPR were better than that and wouldnt watch that on MOTD.

I am not his biggest fan but be fair now.

I didn't notice the tweet you mention. If I had, I might have written along the lines of "although he said X, he also said Y". Even so, the business about Newcastle's "proper" fans and stadium etc. is really stupid. Even if he didn't mean it to be, it's very easy to infer that his current club is being compared unfavourably to his last one.

As a youngster who had to move to Wales for a number of years as a youngster, I know exactly the type of racist victimisation that can happen, having experienced both verbal and physical racism from Other Welsh school "mates" both the same age and plenty of older school kids. And it wasn't particularly a small minority, this was through whole families and streets.

“I've just read the first bit of that article and I can safely say I won't be reading TIME's stuff anymore. I used to read every one of his articles but he's revealed his true colours. That username of his always did make me wonder a bit. Now my early intuition has been confirmed.”

“Thanks for the explanation, mate. I may have jumped the gun a wee bit. (By the way, I never get offended. It’s great to have all sorts of opinions flying about).”

I feel that I would rather see us go down than see that prick Barton in a QPR shirt again
Be interesting to see what sort or reception he gets from the fans when he comes back

Paddy is just disappointing as he was so popular with the QPR fans while he was here
Even though he was poor last season
