We tried to bring him in on loan before we got Mannone back.

Indeed. Dorus De Vries was the main reason Swansea got promoted last season to the PL. Great signing IF its him.

If we sign Kirkland then it will surely be on a deal that suits us i.e. stay fit & play and he gets all of his wage (appearance fees). Everyone is a winner in this scenario.

However, if De Vries is available then I would prefer to see him come in

Wayne Hennessey did his cruciate's so now he's number one. Surely they'll want to keep him.

If Hennessey has done his cruciate's then you would think they would want to keep De Vries

I expect he will be in goal for them against Man City on Sunday(they've also recalled Carl Ikeme from Donny), so maybe he is now out of the running, he just seemed the obvious one based on the info we had.

As do you. If you had read properly the first time, you'd have seen I was correcting you on bringing me up on 'slagging off players before they've even signed'.

Can you point out where I slagged Kirkland off? No, you can't because I didn't. It was the stating of a fact.

If I started a thread saying 'Garcia is starting to go bald' would your response be... 'FFS! here we go again, slagging off players!' ???

I'm not slagging him off by saying he's going bald, I'm stating a fact - he IS going bald, same as I'm not slagging Kirkland off by saying he's injury prone, I'm stating a fact - he IS injury prone. His record clearly shows this.

Is Kirkland injury prone? Yes. Is he a good keeper when fit? Yes. Could he potentially be a good signing? Yes - IF he can stay fit, but recent records show it's quite unlikely.

As I said before, it's a big gamble, one that COULD pay off, but one that also might not, in the likely event (based on recent records) he does get injured, then we'd have to waste a loan space (and extra wages) on bringing in cover for Jakupovic.

It's not slagging a player off, it's called being logical.

All sounds very exciting. Relegated from the Championship I suppose?

We nearly got him on loan earlier this season, but Bolton got a few injuries and he got back in their side.

Why would they need to be relegated to become available though? If he's already not playing surely they would want rid if they stayed up?

Also I might be wrong but despite this being a 'keeper thread, I don't think PT said anywhere that this mystery player was a 'keeper. Maybe we need to broaden our guesses a little bit?

I think so too. Didn't his post start by talking about Kirkland and say we are looking at 2 others as well. Unless I read it wrong

When you're talking about people's opinions of a potential signing you can't go dismissing people's concerns as them being negative when the opposing view requires a change in nature from what's been happening over a prolonged period of time. It's like saying if someone has been spending £100 a week on the lottery for the last 5 years without winning anything except the odd tenner that people being sceptical about the chances of them winning the next week is negative. It's not, it's realistic, and if they turn out to be wrong it's more through luck than design.

Nick's apparently said a deal for Mannone isn't dead. Is that true or is he just trying to put the fans at ease?

Not going to say names on any targets myself currently.

Mannone is someone who we would take, but the figure being talked about needs to be reduced dramatically for anything to happen there.
