We clearly have a far from happy manager at the moment, wonder what's gone on? We can do without this, but then the media would love to see our demise! There is life after Laudrup folks.................... please log in to view this image
Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal are all far bigger clubs than us and pack far more of a financial clout than us. These are of course the four champions league teams. At this moment in time we are a long way behind these teams. Next up come Spurs, Everton and Liverpool. Again all three with far more resources and bigger fanbase. These seven and WBA are the only clubs that finished higher than us. Now Rome wasn't built in a day and our next challenge is to see if we can do anything to get amongst this group of four. Finishing above WBA is very realistic to me and we could have done so his year with a bit of luck. As for the other three clubs it will be difficult due to the financial adavantage they have over us, so perhaps next season finishing 8th would be as good as it gets. Longer term I think Everton and Liverpool would be the next viable targets but I feel that is quite some way off. Everton may decline due to Moyes leaving and WBA may not do as well due to not having Lukako anymore. If that happened next season and we finished 7th behind the champions league sides, Spurs and Liverpool then I feel that would be some achievement. Slow but steady progress must be the order of the day, we've all seen the mess clubs can get into by not being financially sensible. We don't want to end up having successive relegations, selling entire squads or having to change our colours to survive
He is making a point that it would take £200 million to be like the top teams and not have to worry about relegation. He is not saying he wants that amount but makes a point that we do need to invest if we want to stay in the premiership and of course he is spot on....We cant expect to improve or expect to be where we are now next season with what we have got and as far as he was aware there was money to invest........But it looks like what he thinks he needs just to keep us in the top flight is not what jinx thinks we need and you can just imagine the amount jinks has in mind can you..... If he has signed on the understanding he will have enough money to do the job and now finds its not so then his contract is nul and void and he will walk......so i think if jinx wants him to stay then he had better increase whatever has been offered to a level laudrup is happy with and let him get on with the job...
Of course, that is on the assumption that Jenkins is going back on what he agreed pre contract. The flipside is that Jenkins agreed x amount say £30 mill for transfer targets with ML and Laudrup has now decided that he needs more to get the players that he wants. Maybe Jenkins has baulked at what the new figure may be. For all we know ML might now be asking for double. What I find frustrating with what has been quoted in the press by his agent is the lack of figures and the generality of his statements. As much as I would hate to see ML leave over broken promises, I find it hard to believe HJ would lie just to get him to sign an extension. The bottom line is the Board have not steered us wrong yet and I would back them over the curent manager every time. As for the Aspas signing it may only be a few million but maybe his salary is something we cant afford to sustain. For a club of our size sustainability is key whether that is mid to lower Premiership or even a team that bounces between the Championship and the Premier League.
isn't the club 'Superstore' being expanded. Maybe we'll have another nice kit and order enough to make up the 200 million ? Still think it's more of a corner shop than a superstore
Laudrup said: "Unless we find a couple of hundred million pounds I think last season we achieved nearly the maximum we can in terms of the table." He's just stating the truth. However it does raise the point that is it worth spending £50M - £100M just to finish a place or two above where we are now.
If this season is anything to go by just to finish 2 places higher we would have to score 15 more points. Would £50 mill guarantee that and if it would doesn't 2 positions higher only equate to a couple of mill more. Invest £50 mill to gain 2 doesnt make much financial business sense to me. Thats a bit like me spending £25k on an extension of my house to increase its value by a couple of grand..... hmmm not sure if I would. Having said that you know what they say speculate to accumulate. God these splinters are killing me lol
there is no guarantees for any club apart from the big boys thats why we need to spend a significant amount. there was nothing between 8th place and bottom in terms of relegation fodder. If we had began our bad run a few games earlier then we would have been in the danger zone and laudrup acknowledges this perfectly well...9th place flattered us as the reality is there is a huge gap to the top teams....we will need half a dozen players just to get the better of the others who will be fighting off relegation and if we dont get the players that laudrup wants and targeted then our chances of relegation are more likely....we ended the season as one of the worst teams ...we were ****...
Money doesnt guarentee results Torres anybody ! but it sure helps combined with a great manager and scouting team.
that is right there is no guarantees in anything...only our chances get better if laudrup gets his players and is able to make them a team...he has to have that chance and if he cant do it in the first quarter and we are at the bottom then he will have to be replaced, but while he is here he deserves his chance...
Pellegrini, who has confirmed that he has a verbal agreement to succeed Roberto Mancini as Manchester City manager following his resignation as Málaga coach, is expected to start his new job next week with the City hierarchy planning to make an official announcement on his appointment on Monday. And with efforts being made to ensure that Napoli forward Edinson Cavani and Málaga winger Isco follow Pellegrini to City, the departures of Kolo Touré, Roque Santa Cruz and Wayne Bridge will free up more than £300,000 a week in wages for the club to reinforce the Chilean’s squad before the start of next season. Ivory Coast defender Touré has agreed a deal with Liverpool this week following the end of his £120,000-a-week contract at City, four years after arriving in a £12 million transfer from Arsenal. Former England full-back Bridge, who has been loaned to Sunderland, West Ham and Brighton since making his last Premier League appearance for City in December 2010, is also out of contract at the end of June, enabling the club to erase the 32-year-old’s £90,000-a-week salary off the payroll. And Santa Cruz will be allowed to leave the Etihad this summer, four years and just six Premier League starts after arriving in a £100,000-a-week, £17.5 million transfer from Blackburn. Examples like this show that unless by a freak of results , we cannot expect to finish higher than perhaps 8/7th , Those sums of money are well outside what we could ever offer
I hope we NEVER pay those sort of wages. They are just obscene. I would settle for paying "sensible" wages and competing in mid table hoping for the occasional big scalp and a decent cup run.
Totally agree. I think the media are running a mile with this because Laudrup is a name they like to throw about; he was just making a point that really is pointing out the obvious, yet the media report it as him demanding £200m from the board.
