Good read. Hints again at player's unhappiness with Adkins "There was a feeling training had become stale and some of the ex-manager’s substitutions baffled the players". The journo has just spent a few days with the players, so I doubt this is too far wide of the mark.
"MAybe I need to sacrifice my popularity for the good of the club" Cortese in the interview with Jim White
I have even more respect for Cortese after that interview. Brilliantly honest and passionate - makes you realise that a few Saints fans were so blinded by their upset at losing Adkins, they didn't realise the decision was made for the long-term benefit of the club.
Looking forward to the interview. Cortese does selected interviews when he feels it is needed, rather than respond to everything in the press. As he said once: If I did that I'd have no time for anything else. Interesting that he invited the Sun reporter to the training camp...will reach far more footie fans than a piece in the Telegraph/Times. The more I hear the more excited I get about Pochettino...seems to have impressed the players. Sometimes things just need to change. Although Adkins was learning, perhaps the players need to have more confidence in their manager as a leader. After all most of them are inexperienced at this level. The training camp seems to have worked in giving the players a chance to get to know the new manager and coaches...they must have been impressed by the attention he got in Spain and the fact that he opened doors for them in Barcelona.
Don't look at me as I am a technology toddler, but I'm sure someone will. And it may be discussed at length
Not such a big interview, but how about this for intention and the global reach of Southampton FC..? This is the direction the Club is going.
I saw a snippet of cortese... With fantastic English.., Hopefully some of that rubs off on to pottentino
I like the point where he says "How can I judge a person I've never met" People like le tiss need to look at them self and respect what cortese is doing and keep there irratical views to themselves in future.
Yeah, He does seem to be very likable and I hope fans now realise he isn't as ruthless as people make out. I also enjoyed the fact he is showing intent of top 6 and Believes it... And so do I!! COYR
Not an in depth interview. Brought Cortese out of the shadows in a controlled environment...probably suggested by his new PR man. Only interesting points was that he said he had a good relationship with Nigel up to the last second (like nuclear bombs are good up until the last second) and that he had never met MLT. He added that he couldn't comment on someone he had never met and he asked if MLT thought this criticism was good for the club. He was allowed to get away with an answer that it was the right time for a managerial change without saying why (though of course he may have not wanted to be drawn because it would end up with criticism of Nigel). A positive interview without telling us anything much.
