I may be wrong but I think a single official account for the site is not the way forward. I am firmly in favour of an account for each forum focusing on what is relevant for each forum.
In a nutshell, bollocks to Twitter. It doesn't facilitate constructed conversation. Merely it gives people a license to bitch. The one fantastic benefit of it was seeing Rio Ferdinand shown up to be a thick as pig ****, media-manipulative overrated racist 'spit the dummy out of the pram' tosspot. Calling Ash Cole a choc-ice was the most disgusting thing in this whole case. Suggesting that because Ash Cole is black, he should not defend a white man, despite the jury finding the man innocent? So- point being- Twitter has too much downside for me personally.
Now then. Calm down. You may as well say the human brain is **** cos some people are stupid. Twitter's fine. It would bring people to the site cos I read a few racing forums and find this is the best and think others would too. Plus occasionally you get random jokers tweeting almost illiterate gobbledegook about Andrew evzona and Craig cloutier and this forum. Seriously, just link to discussions, ask a few racing faces for retweets and usage will shoot up. O and follow viz comic.
We need to be very careful how we manage this so that the forum can benefit from the good features of Twitter and not suffer from any misuse. We also need to be sure that, if it starts to have a detrimental effect, it can be quickly pulled, if necessary. It's worth giving it a go and reviewing after a month or so or when the situation demands.
We're up and running! If you are on Twitter be sure to follow the sccount - Not 606 Racing. I'll be keeping the Tweets brief and to the point to start with, get momentum building slowly. I'm going to focus on retweeting racing news and posting links to the Daily Thread and any interesting discussions taking place on here.
No, not for me, can't criticize 'cos I know nothing about Twitters and Tweets. But the fact is I cannot tweet, it is an impediment, sad to say. It's like learning the Thai language; it has five basic tones upper, middle, lower, descending and ascending - I kid you not (if you don't believe me, try saying the figure 'five' in Thai (erm.......Haaaaaaa - descending tone - if you get it wrong you might get your ears boxed). And so, I can't tweet!
My biggest achievement as far as technology goes has been turning on my mobile phone, so I might just leave the tweeting to younger generations.
