    A Question of Sport being ditched by the woke BBC after 50 years. Travesty.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-67731546

    Two main reasons given - inflation and funding issues plus falling audiences (strangely since they axed Sue Barker <doh>)

    Simple solutions -

    1) stop employing c*cks like Gary Lineker and paying him so much money

    2) bring back Sue and get rid of that last lot of unfunny nobody’s

    Jesus wept.

    A must-see for me is ITV's Mr Bates Vs The Post Office, starting in the new year, starring the wonderful Toby Jones. I've been following this scandal in Private Eye for nearly 20 years, and it still makes my blood boil.

    Agreed. It's an absolute disgrace.

    Not only that some half-baked computer ruined the lives of hundreds of hard working people and led them to be falsely branded liars and thieves.
    But the cover-up that followed.
    The people responsible for that should go to prison.

    SPOTY tonight. BBC has so little live coverage of major sporting events now that this program has sadly become a bit of a damp squib except for maybe Olympic Games or W/C year, or Wimbledon when Andy Murray was winning. Shame, but this year the only highlight for me is Kenny Dalglish's Lifetime Achievement award.

    I agree the relevance of the show has declined.
    It has not been a vintage year for British sporting achievement.

    Still, at least there isn't a horsey member of the Royal family on the short list.
    They jumped the shark the year Zara won it. What a joke <doh>

    I think I'd vote for Katarina if I could be arsed to vote at all. It must be a tough life staying at the top in Athletics.

    Two of the six SPOTY contenders were not there in person.
    That disqualifies them in my view.
    One of many things that annoys me about award ceremonies is winners who can't be bothered to turn up.

    I didn’t even know it was on. In past years it’s been a real highlight. But now it just seems like an advert for the BBC’s self righteous self image.

    Who were the nominees ? Anyone actually worthy ?

    Mary Earps won it. Katarina Johnson-Thomson came 3rd. I only saw the last 5 minutes, but would quite liked to have seenthe highlights of King Kenny's playing career.

    No disrespect to Mary Earps, but the England women's football team lost the World Cup Final. They were well beaten.
    Katarina was a winner in her event.

    But it doesn't matter in the end.
    SPOTY probably has no more gravitas now that the National Soap Awards.

    Not helped by the fact that there hasn't been a single performance by a British team or individual which has gripped the nation. Not at any sport. Not at the rugby w/c, the cricket w/c, the golf majors or Wimbledon.

    Indeed.

    It's Katarina's bad luck that Athletics just doesn't grip millions of viewers.
    I would still argue that for sheer hard work & thousands of hours of training in various disciplines, KJT has done more than Mary Earps this year.
    But women's football is definitely in vogue right now.

    While still on SPOTY;
    I didn't know they had a fattest wallet award :emoticon-0164-cash::emoticon-0164-cash::emoticon-0164-cash: <doh>
    OK, money can buy you success in any sport. But it shouldn't buy you any respect in my view.
    Particularly as Man City have over 100 charges hanging over them.

    I used to like Von Ryan's Express, always expecting that one of these years Frank Sinatra would catch the train.
