With Nolan banned we have a real chance to run midfield on Tuesday. So who plays? I would start with Hammond and Morgan and Cork. Views?

Who are you dropping to play them? Is that a 4-5-1/4-3-3 ?

Nolan isn't all that. As I've said before, Hammers I know are pleased he is out. Over-rated, arrogant, dirty and lazy they say.

They still have Collison, Noble and O'Brien, O'Neil and Taylor.

Schneiderlin and Cork, they are by far our best CM pairing. Schneiderlin is an all round better passer, tackler and reader of the game than Hammond and Cork does all the mopping up.

Personally I would surprise WHU and play 4-5-1 with RL up front with Guly, Cork, Hammond, Spider, Lallana in the middle
This will force them to play it long and I am confident that Jose and Jos can handle Cole

That may or may not be so, but he doesn't drive the team forward as Hammond does. Hammond is a leader and it shows when Saints need to press. He also happens to be the bloke who seems to be there whenever a defender gets beaten by the opposition. In any case, there's a facility which gives a team a time and place for all the midfielders. It's called a substitutes bench.

Totally agree. Deano is an inspirational leader!

Merely having the sun rise in the East is enough to ensure that Big Sam will play it long. Not a game we should be over-thinking tactically...we shouldn't be looking to take anyone by surprise, but rather simply play the style that got us to where we are.

ive read before that the west ham fans arent that impressed with nolan as his overall play isnt great so i dont think it will be a massive miss for them particulary with their depth.

theres a reason why hammond is playing the fa cup along side reeves and that is because morgan is much, much better - same team for me. gonna be a tight game with it ending 2-1 to either team.

It's going to be a bruising encounter and puncheon for guly would be my one change. With Chaplow and Deano ready on the bench.
As Sharpe is carrying a knock I would have Connolly ready again and then after Martin on the bench I can't decide between Lee, Guly or Bart

Good problems to have

Indeed. I don't think there's any way that we could force West Ham to go any longer than they already do. It's why I'd have Jaidi on the bench.

Schneiderlin is the better player, he will start. I would be very surprised if Hammond is with us if we go up.

I think Hammond is one of those unsung players who could perform well at any level. He drives other players on and you need that in every squad.
