The 6.00 Wetherby is competitive and tricky to call. Maximum Risk is one of the few who looks a paragon of consistency after two seconds and last time out he managed to meet a Michael Stoute horse in a Class 6 Handicap. That is not where we normally see the great trainer plying his trade but his horse started a warm favourite and duly obliged. The worry for me with Maximum Risk is that the ground was soft that day and it is good to firm today.
Cliff Cake is prominent in the betting on his first start for a new yard but I just can't see the angle from his form and he seems short enough.
Storm Dreamer was rated at 71 when with Ralph Beckett but is now down to 60 in the ratings. It was heavy when he last ran and the time before that he never had any luck in running. Hugh Taylor has tipped him at 11/1 but he has halved in price and appeals less now.
My Boy Charles has moved from Fozzy Stack to Adrian Wintle and he made a decent start for the new stable when running on well to be third last time, He could build on that but again faces faster going today.
Katies Kitten beat my selection into second place last time at 100/1. She led them a merry dance from the front that day and might not be able to repeat those tactics today.
I felt Iron Sheriff might be ready to score. He was trained in Ireland but moved to Roger Fell and he seems to have found something after a good run off 58 last time. Second that day, he had bumped into a horse who was 4/7 Fav in a Handicap, suggesting Iron Sheriff was right up against it that day. Iron Sheriff is on 59 this time, so just up a pound and he was rated 75 at one time for Kevin Prendergast before losing his way for that trainer. Roger Fell is 5/35 recently and has run quite a few big outsiders during that time, so is probably in better nick than the bare stats suggest.
Maximum Risk and the naff named Sugarpiehoneybunch are now non-runners.
