Decent stayer who has been in good form of late , be warned there was a bad run at c/d in 2019 . The price looks very fair with W/H at 9/2 . 365 opened at 7/2

Hello, team. You find me this morning a bit distressed, upset and shocked (so shocked in fact that, earlier on, I had to have a lie down in the sick bay for half an hour). It's Lieutenant Henderson's birthday on Friday (don't forget to dispatch your card to Seven Barrows in time, regular readers) and Cheltenham, who have a decent card that day, haven't named a race in his honour. Dis-grace-full. Not so much as a 'Lieutenant Henderson Novices' Hurdle' or a 'Nicky Henderson's Handicap' (insert your own joke here if you wish). Very, very, very poor show, in my opinion.

In all seriousness though if the horse pictured, to the left of these words, wins the 2.25 on Friday then I'd imagine the great man would have to be carried to 'The Owners and Trainers Bar' for a restorative GnT - birthday or no bally birthday!

While I'm on can I just say it was absolutely fab-u-luss to see my old fave, Elegant Escape, back at the weekend albeit over hurdles and over the wholly inadequate trip of 2 miles - pipeopener and all that. Ran on most encouragingly in the home straight as well to suggest the ability is very much still there.

Elegant Escape had been off since the CGC of '20 and you would imagine that all the major staying handicaps would now be considered for him. Interestingly, despite running over hurdles the handicapper has this morn dropped his chasing perch by 2 lbs. That's now 7lbs lower than he was rated the last time he ran in a chase (and 8lbs lower than his peak over the big 'uns). Look out for him, team.

Whoshotwho (Dr Richard Newland) runs at Fontwell Park this afternoon.

Our ten year old seems in good form. He's been a little too consistent for his own good this year, with the handicapper unwilling to drop him enough to allow him to get his head in front. He continues to be a super horse who runs regularly and gives his owners a lot of fun. He deserves to win soon.

One of the things that encouraged me to bet on him was that I saw your horse yesterday and Minella Encore.

If they have Grand National ambitions with Santini, will they be wanting him to win a Grade 3 off a mark of 159 this Friday? Perhaps potter round under top weight and finish a tired but respectable 5th on seasonal debut? Maybe getting dropped a pound or two into the bargain?

Couldn't agree more. Surely they will want that 159 as near to 150, as they can get, by the publication of the weights if the GN is the aim.
