Only 5-runners but the 18:20 race at Newton Abbot, a Class-3 Handicap Chase over 2m5f, is still interesting and is a competitive event. Fat Sam is a better chaser than hurdler and ran disappointingly over hurdles at Uttoxeter 30-days ago. Switched-back to chasing over an ideal distance, the gelding has a decent chance to give a good account. James Davies rides for the Chris Down yard.

3/1 best price in just about all places at time of writing.

Not a bad effort but no chance with the favourite, who jumped very well indeed. Thought that Fat Sam was a pretty tricky ride, and his jockey did a good job to get him into second place.
