Nottingham 15:25 Silvestre De Sousa rides Caiya in a race named after himself (well, his 188bet column) on a filly with very impressive form in lower class races . Fate's a gambler. Has to overcome a bit of an enigma in Verandah but this is too obvious a punt to pass up.

My only other shout today is Royal Cosmic at Ayr - unimpressive in her last two starts but is almost back to her last winning mark. My only concern is that course. 9 years since they realigned that home turn and I still don't trust it. It's the course I've been to more than any other in my life but I have no fondness for it if I'm honest.

All of this is somewhat academic since I've just cursed them both. GLA <cheers>

Huntingdon seems to me like buying money.
17.40 Hatcher
18.10 spader
18.40 Roberts star
19.10 Mellow Ben
20.10 Frankie Rapper

Hope so anyway as tomorrow I hit Spain for a few day's golfing and on the lash.

Cor bally blinkin’ blimey are we all following this Faugheen ‘2016 Champion Hurdle’ farce?!? I’ve never heard of the trainer involved but he’s impressed me, in this matter, and I think he could go far as he’s already learned ‘the first rule of training racehorses, Spike’ - [HASHTAG]#blameitonthevet[/HASHTAG]

I read the article on the Racing Post website and it doesn't look good for Tim Brennan. Firstly the vet refusing to co-operate with the investigation already makes one suspicious. Secondly, the fact that the vet's brother laid the hind legs off Faugheen when he was still 1/2 fav for the Champion Hurdle just before news of the injury broke is pretty much a smoking gun. But we shall see - I'm sure justice will be done.

I wasn't aware there had been changes to the course at Ayr. My mind might be playing tricks on me but for some reason I have it in there that home turn is (or was) the scene of quite a few weird and unpleasant slips and falls. Horses seemingly home and dry just going down. Is any of this true or even relevant to the realignment?

100% - it's the only downhill bit of the course and the end of the bend used to be really sharp - any soft ground around there and horses would just tumble. They tried a few things to sort it in the noughties then there was a deadly pile up at it in 2009, I think, and they had to bite the bullet and just adjust the bend.

Daily Telegraph got the double up with their Nap and NB yesterday.

Today:

NAP
Bombshell Bay, 2.45 Chepstow

15/8

Richard Hannon's charge reappeared with a decent effort on the all-weather at Kempton and confirmed the suspicion he'd strengthened up over the winter with a Windsor win next time out. That success needed a stewards' intervention after BOMBSHELL BAY had twice suffered interference late on and passed the post in second, but he was deservedly awarded the race. The form looks decent for the grade, with the third having scored twice since and the ninth home also winning next time out. A 3lb hike therefore shouldn't halt BOMBSHELL BAY and he's fancied at 7/4 to take this prize home.

NB
Third Estate, 7.10 Huntingdon

Neil King's runner was a bumper winner in Ireland before arriving in the UK and he remains lightly-raced in this sphere. It has been quite stop-start for THIRD ESTATE since he joined King's team but last month's Ludlow third on soft ground was his best to date over hurdles. He's undergone wind surgery since and that, together with the better ground, could improve his lot as he drops slightly in trip. Champion jockey Richard Johnson is booked for a rare steer for this yard and a price of 9/1 on potential improver THIRD ESTATE looks generous.

The old Torygraph seems to have transformed its racing pages, their racecards are well worth a look, with snazzy detailed form guides:

13:50 Nottingham - My Dear Friend

(On his debut and only run so far raced on heavy ground over 5f at Salisbury. Made favourite but only finished 4th, but ran creditably. Therefore hard to figure what the colt, a son of Kodiac, will do over 6f on fast ground? Just a modest interest methinks.)

Very much liking the look of Marvellous Monty in the 8.10 Huntingdon. I've had this deceptively named filly in my tracker since a late (somewhat suspicious) withdrawal at this same track what seems like an age ago. Dickie takes the saddle.

In my eyes looks nailed on for at least a place and worth a few of my sheckles at 7/1.

From my first group of 6, John Honeyman won, Keeper's choice 2nd at 7/1.

From my second group of 5, Volpone Jelois and Canyouringmeback won, Rock Nstones 2nd at 9/2.

That last 2nd was frustrating - would have had a treble up but for mine allowing the winner to get a huge soft lead. As it was, he almost caught him.

Had to settle for the double in that group. It was ptofitable, the first group wasn't, smallish loss overall.

Still, 3 wins and 2 seconds from 11 ain't too bad.

How does a maiden 3yo start at 1-6 on his debut? Fairy Falcon (first at Ayr) may have been catching pigeons on the gallops but that must be the shortest priced debutant I've ever seen. Must have cost some people a lot of money and credibility when he could only manage 3rd place.
