Quite simply, he doesn't ride Ascot well. Sometimes it is all too simple on the very best horses.

So Barney Roy has beat Lancaster Bomber by a lenght or less today and at the Guineas. Makes it all kind of muddling. Either LB is better than they are campaigning him or this isn't a great division.

Wasn't Churchills running today but I get the impression that he just lacks gears. He got to the front early in the English Guineas and just galloped to the line.

They went pretty quick today setting a new coarse record.

I'd definitely go with Ribchester in the Sussex too. I think Ribchester is very good, and is proving to be very reliable in these G1 mile races. The way he hung all over the track tells me he is better than the bare form of that run too.

Barney Roy is a good horse, but the time it took him to get to the front today wouldn't fill me with encouragement that he could get the better of Ribchester.

I know the Hannon team like the Sussex stakes and Goodwood in general but I think the owners will pull rank on this one, and send him elsewhere.

It's funny how Lady Aurellias performance was the most visually impressive, yet she was the only winner of the 4 that couldn't break the track record on what is probably the fastest Royal Ascot ground since the track was re done. Even the 2yos managed it.

Does that say her performance was not actually as impressive, as the eye would suggest, and that it was a poor renewal of the Kings Stand?

Only asking the question before anyone has a pop <laugh>

I was only gonna have one bet, but it's like the Death Star you get sucked in. I'm having a bit of June dog for Hannon 66/1

Slight return on Thunder Snow but otherwise completely bombed out there. I definitely expected much better from Lightning Spear and Priceless. Very disappointing day for me. Well done all those who found winners. Bring on tomorrow

Darley 1 Ferguson 2, but a Pyrrhic victory for JF

Few better bred horses than the last winner. The grand-dam was that wonderful filly Gossamer (owned and bred by Gerald Leigh). Gossamer's half-brother was that good miler Barathea (some of you may remember the dam Brocade, who was trained by Guy Harwood). By Exceed and Excel it is difficult to say how far he'd stay. See no reason why 7 or 8f shouldn't be within scope. He may be better at 5-6f though.

None of the horses he was beaten on today where his fault. AOBs horses just didn't perform today for whatever reason.

Well in profit but still disappointed having the shortest one lose after the 1st 2 win.
