I've only ever been in the Queen Mother stand Dave, which is the dogs bollocks but probably sold out now. In fact looking at the website, it looks like the steeplechase enclosure or one of the restaurants is your only option. You might, of course, spot the odd tout outside the course <whistle>

They don’t do threads like that any more!

Cor blimey was that really 5 and a half years ago! The ‘Speed Ratings’ and the ‘Festival Staking Plan’ are but dim and distant memories these days, I’m afraid. Haven’t the time for the former whilst unfortunately ante-post betting on the Festival has been ruined by the introduction of so many ‘new’ races (especially in the novice sphere) and in so many cases you don’t know who is going where until a few days before ‘tapes up’. This term I didn’t stake an ante-post wager until the beginning of March!

    Beef Stew and dumplings. 8/10.

Has Monbeg Dude been tipped up somewhere for the old GN??? He’s blue across the board on ‘Oddschecker’ and as low as 10’s in places.

Agree on the way to wager at the Festival, Sir Barney, not that it helped me at all this year! Ante-Post, unless one is very lucky, is a sure loser.

Erm, I believe a very hot fish curry is coming up (sea salmon & cod + Basmati rice + an ice-cold beer of course). Usually very good!

Amazingly, I had beef stew as well, but as the French would say "sans Dumplings". It was the rest of the huge pot I made on Sunday (made Yorkshire puddings with it on Sunday, but just bread today. Can't be making Yorkshire pudding at lunch time - christ, we don't even call it lunch in Yorkshire <laugh>)

Aintree has a weird habit of throwing the form book out of the window, year on year. Dynaste would be the form pick AND he was awesome at Aintree last season BUT Aintree has a weird habit of throwing the form book out of the window, year on year. Hmmmmm.

I remember lumping on Denman in the Bowl, he was at least 20lbs clear of the field on the book but was never travelling. Ever since then it has been a case of: Note to self - approach Aintree with extreme caution.

With so many horses running at Aintree this week you just don't know if they left their season behind at Cheltenham or if they are simply 'over the top' for the campaign. So much more guesswork at this meeting than most in my view.

Does anyone else think it's rather poetic that a horse called Burnt Fingers foils at 33/1?

Ok, just a dumb question. The field in the national will get along at a clip very much slower that a Golf Cup field would. This means that an animal who is just found wanting at 27 in that company, will have a lot more up his sleeve in the national. And seeing that Long Run has only once unshipped his rider, can he be in it for a long way? He has to be the most talented horse in the race, by a long way. He has half a million in the bank. The fences are of course a problem, but he won't be at them at the same pace either. I can see him running one hell of a race. Is anyone going to have a saver on him at the generous odds?

Looks like a promising start from Heisman, one too good in the experienced and race fit Godolphin horse.
