The 2nd race at F'yhouse is just 1 runner shy of all those entered for the 6 race extravaganza at Exeter! 3,2,3 running the first three races <yikes>

Well the flat season proper starts with the Classic trials at Newmarket and Newbury this week.

I am grateful to Godolphin/Charlie Appleby for announcing that Wuheida is out of the two fillies’ Classics injured as that saved me from losing money on her for both races and the double ante post in what looks a very open year for the fillies with no standout candidate. I thought that Wuheida looked an Oaks filly but they had declared she would be starting in the 1000 Guineas, where I still think that the favourite Rhododendron is also a middle distance filly.

I do not see Churchill as a worthy 6/4 favourite for the 2000 Guineas because he was very forward as a two year old and the others may have caught up with him over the winter. That makes it open in my mind so I have had an interest in David Elsworth’s Swiss Storm, who I hope to see this week in one of the trials. Andre Fabre’s Prix Djebel winner Al Wukair could be interesting on 6th May but he is a son of sprinter Dream Ahead.

Ironically, there is no real day one Classic trial at Newmarket (the Nell Gwyn used to be on the Tuesday), so I will be looking at the Feilden Stakes (4:05). Sadly the one that I fancied in the five day entries has defected and there does not look like there is any potential superstar in the seven starters. A paddock inspection is required before lumping on the clear form pick, SALOUEN, as Sylvester Kirk is not as adept at first timing as his former tutor Richard Hannon snr.

Hopefully Frankel’s son Elyaasaat puts his best hoof forward in the opening Wood Ditton. It always throws up a few to follow so the two Invincible Spirit colts, Dawaaleeb and Night Circus, and Mark Of Approval could be interesting.

Given the good form of the bin Suroor yard lately, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Top Mission will better the other runner from an in-form yard, Firefright, in the 4:35; but neither will be a price.

Those looking for a short-priced banker should try the Southwell 3:55 where I am reliably informed that CUSTARD THE DRAGON will add to his four course wins despite top weight; hopefully paying for my petrol to HQ!

Gallery Exhibition. 4.15. Kempton.

Got a lot in it's favour today. Trip, ground, weight and a nice little break.

Missed the 14's last night, but will settle for the 13/2 generally available, although I expect a drift now!

Morning, you types. On my last visit to the old forum, about a week ago, I tipped 2 animals and both, later in the afternoon, manifested as non-runners! I say that’s not Cricket. I hope my regular readers hid their disappointment stoically. Can I just say though that there is no truth in the rumour that they became non-runners because I tipped them. No, no, no, no, no, troops.

Nothing for me today but I see that you can submit a claim, for that old legend Fattsota, if you are prepared to stump up £10k. I wouldn’t be surprised if a few pilgrims did this after the second heat on The Southwell Sands this afternoon. Sadly, the ‘Not 606 Syndicate’ won’t be claiming this time as we’ve currently only got £3.37 in the old vault.

Good luck to those wagering today.

In case anyone fancies Buldan in the opener at Newmarket, I just spotted this on the Racing Post website:

"Buldan is unique in our opener in that he has only one eye and has to run on a straight course."

A large salad with tuna and olives, boiled potatoes. 9/10.

Godolphin have won every race at Newmarket this year so far. Can they complete hat-trick?

Swizz of the season: £3.50 racecard thinner than my local takeaway menu.

Great shout and nice little drift too
