One entry tomorrow that slightly surprises me is that of my old fave COSMEAPOLITAN on the old all-weather at lovely Lingers (1.35). Just 9 days ago he had just his 2nd run over timber and although he finished last of 7 in a ‘Listed Hurdle’ performed with great credit, I thought, being beaten just 4 lengths (it was a very bunched finish as this stat indicates). That effort I would have thought hinted at potential and made a mark of 126, in the NH sphere, look exploitable. Instead, of hoping to follow this up with another solid run over hurdles though old boy Alan King slaps Cosmeapolitan on the rump and puts him back on the level.

He’s fallen 7 lbs from his peak Flat rating of 95, troops, and with that recent good performance under timber to his name (which was Cosmeapolitan’s first run for almost 4 months so it can be expected to have brought him on) may be able to return to the old winners enclosure – incidentally he did that very thing this week last year!

The stable are also in good form with, at the time of scribing, 2 of out of their last 5 runners jolly well obliging. Will wait to see the prices but think Cosmeapolitan may be worth a small wager of the morrow.

Rouge Nuage 20/1 wolves, the right jockey who knows the horse, 4 course wins and back on winning mark, trainer in good form, cracking ew bet<whistle>

Royal Birth @ 8/1 at Lingfield, 2.10. Has run twice over the minimum trip here and won both times including a listed event earlier in the year. Also an ew double with Mumgos Debut @9s up at Ayr.

Does NH have a polytrack Barney. Interesting that he makes his début on it tomorrow. He only has one piece of form on the AW and that was on tapeta over 12f

Alan King the trainer isn' he? Gets plenty of poly /tapeta winners.....

<doh> So he is. I assumed it was NH. Maybe he has a polytrack and therefore knows that he is pounds better than his turf rating?

PS. That was a half decent hurdle race he ran in lto

Blaklion not as harshly treated by the handicapper as I would have thought. Was expecting a 10 lbs rise for the old boy but has been handed an 8 lbs increase taking his perch to 161. It’s still going to be bally difficult for him in the ’18 GN off that – unless he’s improved enough to be bordering CGC class, of course.

Meanwhile, the ‘nudge, nudge, wink, wink…’ one I spoke about last Monday has been given an introductory rating of just 100 which I would imagine will please connections no end. Has now run in his 3 novice hurdling events and can now go handicapping off an exploitable perch – can’t wait for this to happen. Is going to be one of those horses who has a relatively close Flat / NH mark as the former is 75. My only fear price wise for when he makes his NH handicap bow is that it may be a bit obvious just how well he is treated!

As the Royals are amongst your regular readers I would imagine they will be "'avin it right off" when said horse runs <ok>

It will only be Princess Camilla though, the forum’s favourite Royal, that I will reveal all to. The Actress, Pippa Middleton’s sister and little Eddie can go whistle.

I think you will find the haggard old trout is a Duchess and in no way shape or form...a princess!

I say, old boy, that’s a bit harsh. Hang your head in shame.

I’ve actually exchanged pleasantries with Princess Camilla at Royal Ascot and she’s a lovely old stick. Of course the racing fraternity took her to their hearts at Cheltenham the year she enthuastically bedecked herself in Sire de Grugy’s colours after he had won the ‘Champion Chase’. Wonderful moments on the old podium. And how splendid it would be if her own Carntop (now with Jamie Snowden and 66’s available) won the ‘Supreme Novices’ in March.

It is though fascinating to observe the old die-hard and devout Royalists when around her. They just don’t know how to act at all (the usual subservient or utterly contemptuous) and just behave even more unusual than normal.

A midfield finish, beaten 3 lengths, for Cosmeapolitan. After morning support (8’s into 5) he drifted alarmingly on course – 5/1 out to 15/2.

Doesn't seem to be fulfilling the undoubted promise that existed this time last year. Will he be back over hurdles or on the flat again next time???
