To be honest, we have problems enough of our own without perpetually having to acclimatise young players mistakenly sent to us in the belief that in the English second tier, a Little bit of skill will cause defences to part at will. It ain't that easy RD, but don't you fret about it, just find some more cheap youngsters to come and be scarred by the Valley experience. They say you are never too old to learn, but they obviously don't say it to RD.

Marc- Antoine Fortune said to be joining us on loan from relegation threatened Wigan. That will get the Valley turnstiles clicking again. Nearly 34 years old, and appears to have hardly played football in the last 12 months

    Ricardo Fuller Mark 2.

We're not in the market for anyone if we have to compete against other clubs for their services. Back to Tucudean- I don't go to many away games, but it seems that the handful of decent games he's played have all been at home?

A bit of a strange one, if true. This can only be on loan. At least he can hold the ball up and I liked Fuller. Fortune is better than Tucudean, but that is not hard.

Might turn out to be useful. Better than a Network player.

He might be better than Tucadean but what does signing Fortune say about the overall direction ? He is 34 in July, and averages 1 goal in every 10 games FFS according to Wiki. Its just another mix n match journeyman- the type we signed under S&J

I don't know how RD does it, dismantles and pillages clubs, from the start it is the intention. What is he set to gain from CAFC for starters, i cannot see him making a profit.

Us poor bastards have sat and hoped we would bring in some quality through january. Fat chance now it, is already the 21st and we are bringing in only incompetence.

Nothing that we don't already know. Maybe Roland wants us to be the Crewe Alexandra of London, in which case falling attendances and relegation would not bother him too much.

January is a difficult month to get anybody decent in. The prices are sky high and a lot of the Clubs do not want to release their players. I will say it again, our business should have been done in August when we made a good start. Bringing in three to four quality Championship signings would have transformed our season. Now we are desperate and scraping around in the bargain basement. We need to, as Curbs used to say, get back to basics and make ourselves difficult to beat again. We need to scrape together enough points to make us safe. The new coach has to try and bring the squad together, which is not going to be easy.

It all depends on his replacement. I fear that he will be better than anyone coming in, which tells us a horrible story right there.

Yes, a lot of posters have been expecting, or at least hoping for, quality signings and I do not know why. Management clearly and repeatedly stated in late Autumn that they would only be strengthening the team if we were in with a serious chance of promotion. That stopped being the case before Christmas.

Had they got in a couple of quality loans to improve our two weakest positions (CF and LM) towards the end of our unbeaten run we could be at least in the play-off spots now. The fact RD didn't shows he is not serious about Charlton's future. Now it is too late, because morale and goodwill are shot to pieces and even players who were doing OK are playing badly.

    Bitter,

Youy may want to delete the first paragraph above, sometimes what sounds like a joke when writing may not come across as such when reading <ok> I know you didn't mean it as it sounds above..

AHLL - it sounded like a joke to me. We know that many Aussies are descended from convicts. Fact. Aussies- The Convicts. English - The Mugs..sorry...Poms.

Interesting point. I have never understood how the Crewe model has lasted so long. Maybe it is a unique case and they have built up a self-renewing network of contacts in schools and other clubs over the decades.

It would be dangerous for Charlton to try and replicate that. As we sank down the tiers, apart from falling attendance and much reduced ancillary income from TV, shirt sales, etc, surely it would be harder to attract the best young players. We might attract, as we have now from Spurs, Palace, Norwich, Wednesday, etc., youngsters who have failed with bigger clubs and who might be good enough for us at a lower level, but we would be very unlikely to attract any who were saleable for sums sufficient to keep the club afloat.

AHLL taking care of us simple folk, it is much appreciated.

The key fact with Tucudean was that he never played well away from home. I think it was Peter Taylor who used to do his scouting at away games, because that's when you learn about a player's character.
