The UK is committed to spending 2% of GDP for Nato, about time France and Germany paid their fair share.
Theresa May has promised Trump to remind the European slackers to cough up with a bit more cash. Spain and Italy are even worse than Germany and France, their contributions are less than 1%. A lot more financial pressure for EU countries after the UK stops its bankrolling.
And I have no qualms about using the term ‘scum’ to describe that class of politicians who see fit to destroy the lives of not only the most vulnerable in a society, but also those caught up in situations which are quite clearly not of their own making – ie the unemployed - who see fit to starve their own citizens whilst expecting them to survive purely on the generosity of their fellow citizens. Represent an honest and ongoing tradition in this country of people who believe that help for social causes comes from a successful economy – my backside! There is nothing honest about a tradition that sees the rich get richer and the poor get poorer; that sees a successful economy as nothing more than a conduit to feed their own greed whilst blaming the poor themselves for the predicament they are in – privatises profit and socialises debt; that lies and cheats its way into power, then lies and cheats to retain that power; that lies about the extent & cost of fraud in social welfare, then gratuitously fill their own pockets from the public purse on ‘MP’s expenses’ – and have the nerve to legislate against the public being provided with details of those expenses. There is absolutely nothing honest about those who deliberately under-fund public services with the express purpose of privatising them – to the financial benefit of themselves being investors, and their party donors; nothing whatsoever at all honest about a regime that rails against, seeks out and punishes those guilty of abuse against children – yet protects those within its own ranks who are equally guilty of the same heinous crime; nothing honest about those who claim healthcare and pensions shouldn’t be viewed as a right as they are unaffordable – even though the workforce have specifically insured themselves for both at the insistence of the government – yet who allow multi-national companies to avoid tax and, in many cases, actively avoid it themselves. I’m sorry if you’re offended by my use of the word ‘scum’ – but I’m damned sure I’m not the only one who would use it in this context – and I honestly cannot think of a more appropriate term.
You don't seem to have understood that this is a UK problem, and nothing to do with any other country. The UK ordered hardware and cannot now afford to pay for it. It will go down well with Trump when he finds out that we are saving money rather than paying the USA.
TM and DT remind me of the two losers who had to date together at school as no one else would, like some mutal pre-written agreement of genetic outcasts. How are they both in charge? My heart sinks...
You only use such vile terms of abuse when you cannot make your point by polite argument. Name calling is not debate. You are incorrect OFH - I do not want to see the disadvantaged pick up the biggest bill - I believe in progressive taxation And in case anyone thinks I am a Tory apologist I will never vote Conservative again after what they have done to this country on brexit. I can still though respect people I oppose and do not need to use words like scum. Each to their own if that is their shorthand for reasoned argument. Calling a person on here scum though would be a step further.
This was due to a substantial increase to the defence budget. They could easily raise any deficit by diverting funds from within the defence dept from the overseas aid budget.
Sorry if I misread what you were saying. I believe that there is a middle road between profit and how you use it. It has been shown that many people who voted in general elections but lived within the EU voted for the Tories. I have only seen and heard reactions the same as yours, never again. The problem is where do they put their votes now with only one English party having a clear position. Not a lot of choice, but they have had so many join they are now setting up branches in Europe.
You don't seem to understand government finance. They can raise any amount of funds just by increasing the already large sums. UK Governments are not like corner shops or Greece.
The Tories have one of the largest leads over the opposition for many years, at this rate of decline they will be in power for 50 years.
I'm not sure if this is a 'Trump' issue - but has anyone else tried to sign this petition? https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/pe...ate-pizzagate-and-any-other-****phile-rings-0 I'm aware that many, including myself, have tried - but the number of signatures never rises above one. Very odd...
This lot are something else. They are all for themselves, nothing more. Bunch of fascists, the lot of them. Scum. Dangerous scum at that.
I believe in social welfare that can be paid for. In the past I have tended to vote Labour when the country can afford it and Tory when I want the finances sorted out. No more - I would spoil my ballot paper before I ever again voted Tory. I am aware it makes no difference but for me politics is about principle. People who are vile or say vile things repulse me. The idea of calling people - yes people - scum is anathema. This from people who pretend to care about their fellow human beings. As I said before political debate is about saying what you believe in and don't. You argue why you think as you do. You assume that those people who hold different views are no better nor worse than you are. They have lived lives that lead them to believe in different solutions. To demonise a person - calling them Nazis for example is just rude and lazy. If you cannot make a case; someone has on here a tag line: "Better to remain silent and let people think you're a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!"
Even if I agreed with your analysis of the Conservative Party- which I don't - I still would not abuse a person. So call me scum for defending them if you are so inclined. You could make up just as easily a description of Labour with almost exactly the same words you use - except perhaps you would need to say they drive people into poverty by their reckless mismanagement of finances - other than that the complaints you level could be levelled at many other parties. It does not make any "scum". If your political analysis starts from the premise that those you oppose are scum then your views have no validity at all.
You clearly have no idea what a fascist is. When you learn then perhaps you can try a meaningful debate. I am interested that people on here who are so quick to attack one of our number are totally silent over the use of scum and fascist. Hypocrisy, short sightedness, double standards or I am clearly missing something? As always OFH remains a voice of reason.
