I don't think it is stupidity on our part really PF - you have to admit it's a hell of a statement of intent for a Champiosnhip club to rejct such an offer. Good luck today by the way - hope to see you lot stay up this season.
Well rejected our latest offer confirms that. Personally im glad as i dont want him Only way Deeney will leave is if he pushes a move through. Im sure he would have done that already if he was going to
I am not sure Deeney would tansition to the Premiershi[p with a new club any more successfully than Vydra did. It would be a big gamble for a club to pay so much for an untested player at that level. HOwever he is worth all that and more to us and if he helps us up he is more likely to do well at the higher level with a team and players he is familiar with. I hope he does not get sold but still fear he will - he is n a lot of clubs radar and it will only take a couple more good performance from him to seal it. Dare I hope he has a couple of "iffy" games? Good luck Leicester - hope you do a Swansea not a Cardiff
Maybe so, but your manager does. IMHO TD is one of the most improved players I have seen during my time supporting Watford in terms of his ability when he joined us compared with his ability today. Happy to admit that I didn't rate him too highly when he arrived, but prison and Zola have been the making of him and I have voted for him as my player of the season for the past two years. In last week's game he did three or four things that he just would not have been capable of doing when he first arrived. It is for this reason (i.e. the evidence that having stepped up once he can step up again) that I think he can do well in the PL, but he may need time. Added to that, when Mini Bloother and I have met him at the open training sessions and the open day the other week, the guy was a legend and far more willing to engage with the fans that certain others i can mention. I think Troy and the club are in a win win situation. Do well and get promoted and TD plays in the Prem and Watford are quids in. Do well but fall at the last hurdle and Troy will be allowed to leave for a decent fee. If we are well of the play offs come January then again he may be allowed to leave and again for a still decent fee. Unless he has a real stinker of a season (which I don't think will happen) I don't see his value falling that much. At worst the cash figure may be lower and the add-on's higher. Personally I do not think TD is in a hurry to leave and the Pozzo's are not desperate to sell. They will have learnt their lesson last season when they let Vydra go and they won't make the same mistake again.
we are so lucky to have the owners that we have got. They don't throw large amounts of money we cant afford to gamble on getting us to the epl . no one would blame them on cashing in on troy . they have just stood back looked at the situation and said come in with silly money 12m+ or they risk his value going down say 7m to try and get us in the epl.The family are true football people so COYH
I would have to agree Bloother about the improvement in his all round play. His ability to hold the ball and make a decent pass is a huge step up from the player we first watched. No he doesn't always get the pass right, but he is not the superstar centre forward that has had the 'big' clubs coming along with bids that the Pozzos couldn't refuse. The owners are showing their intent, let's hope that our head coach can deliver.
I am staggered by the amount of comments that suggest TD (and MV too) are good enough to get us up but won't be good enough to keep us up (assuming promotion) or to keep anyone else up this in the Prem this season if they were sold. TD is indeed the most improved player I've seen at The Vic too. Not perfect, still had some temperament issues to iron out as of May, but all in all he has come further than anyone else I've seen.
Yep! http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/watfordfc/watfordfcnews/11414530.Watford_won_t_sell_Deeney_this_summer_as_third_Leicester_bid_rejected/
What I would like to see now as a new contract being negotiated and signed during the season. The biggest concern is that at the end of this season he will only have a year left on his contract (I think) and therefore his value will reduce if we don't get promoted, even if he has another good year.
Why sell if we don't need to and Deeney wants to stay? He is our best striker and a home grown player - be quite a hassle to replace.
About the home grown aspect, we would be really scraping the barrel for 6 players who are good enough and aren't injured for the squad. Doyley, Bond, Anya, Cathcart, Hoban, Dyer, Murray, Mcgugan and Andrews would be the only real 9 options and if you consider Cathcart, Doyley and Anya are all injured at the moment it could become an issue. As an off topic side-note does Andrews count as homegrown despite being Irish?
A rather different take on the story from Sky! http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11688/9426222 I suspect an agent has been at work trying to get his player a move - even if Deeney doesn't want to go (hasn't expressed a desire in public anyway) heads can be turned easily unfortunately.
He came through the Academy system at Wolves, and has spent his entire 15 year club career since then playing in England, so I don't think that being Irish is a problem.
