There would be some fans I bet who might be disappointed if they go for an England and Man U striker (in name rather than actual ability) and then end up with Troy. It could just be the media just trying to link the 2 - mind you its realistic.
Trouble is the guy isn't a goalscorer - bit of a problem for any striker. Think he scored more in one season for England than Man U! Works hard though...
If Deeney scores three more goals before the end of the month, and various clubs are desperate for a striker on September 1st, how much will the price go up, and how much will the Pozzos want to keep him?
Well, your lot just got £12.5 million for a striker with a far worse record - so why would we let him go for less than that?
I'm a Watford fan dude... from Yorkshire (Sheffield born and bred, no connection to Hull.) On the 'worse record' comment, I don't think Long is an out and out goalscorer, more of a link-up player with another centre forward. Also, don't forget to compare Deeney and Long's Premier League record, I think the extra £2.5 million could be justified for his years of premier league experience.
Apologies... Long may not be an out and out goalscorer but I'd argue that Deeney's worth to a team is not just his ability to score goals. He is valuable all over the pitch, and is a natural leader - makes him worth far more IMO.
Hahaha no worries. Don't get me wrong I appreciate his overall role for the club (interaction with fans online etc.) but I just feel £10 million is an unbelievable transfer fee. For example wouldn't the fee pretty much cover the construction of the new stand. That would mean a lot for a player who might have an average season and lose half his value or could get a shocking injury and lose all of it.
Fair points, it is a very well-balanced situation. Stick - he could be a key part to get us up this season, with far bigger financial rewards. Twist - now is his peak value so cash in. Do Italians play Poker??
It's one of those situations where someone's probably gonna be complaining either way in a years time.
It is, but footballers values are determined in much the same way as house values - a lot depends on a) what similar houses have been sold for, and b) what people are actually prepared to pay. Looking at what an unfit McCormack, Ulloa and Long cost, to me Deeney is worth far more. Whether or not he performs in the EPL as he has in the Championship, loses form, gets injured etc etc doesn't really matter - that's the risk that clubs have to take. Looking at some of the expensive flops in the EPL over the last few seasons, it appears clubs certainly are willing to take the risk.
