Not a lot of meat to bones there. Quite literally a recap of how he got the job, nothing of why this might have happened. The obvious speculative punt will be that he was a professional being hampered by the ameteurs on the board. But who can say, I doubt the truth will out itself. But on face value he appeared to be doing a decent job, while the club had hit a point where stability seemed at least possible. Oh well...

Well maybe, but a more "obvious speculative punt" might be that he was offered more money elsewhere. There is little evidence that Stone was unhappy with his relationship with the club.

Is there always evidence of unhappiness? When I quit my last job, they hadn't a scooby it was coming, those who are professional will always give 100% and stay professional and the signs can then be harder to read. Who could possibly pay more than Delia!

Thought it was going to be Webber, pleased it isn't!

Stone appears to have done a good job, but I would hope the division of labour at the top means we should have a big pool of candidates. We're not looking for a McNally (or Moxey, or Doomcaster...) to be ultimately responsible for everything. We're after someone with significant financial experience, they don't need a record in football necessarily.

As Bailey points out in the article, the place on the board is an interesting opportunity. We were previously at maximum capacity on the board, so is this a chance for someone who can provide external investment to take a seat on the board? Or more likely, another Smith...
 
The club have issued a statement on the new setup. Basically Stone's two deputies are absorbing his responsibilities, and will now form an "executive committee" with Webber, who will report to the board. There won't be a new hire.

I guess in terms of "club politics", it gives the Smith's overall control at board level. If Delia, Michael and Thomas want something, it can't be voted down. The more positive spin is that we could bring a director on board who has money to bring in to the club.
