He’s spent - £45 million net mate. That’s insane. I fully agree, and just had a convo with a Mag mate that the gaffer being whiny and defeatist doesn’t help on bit, but £45 million in the black over 3 years? He’s not being backed. I’m not here to defend the ****ers but that’s a crazy, crazy statistic.
£110m in 5 transfer windows mate. It's not peanuts. He's had plenty to spend, should have spent it better, chequebook was always gonna close eventually for a while. Nope, no sympathy what so ever, they all know the nature of the beast down there. The Beast has been very very generous considering there's been a relegation to factor into the spending he's done.
This is very relevant when people just mention the net spend. They got rid of a load of ****e for huge fees, so fair play to them for that. He's still spent that huge sum of money though and should have a better squad than what he's currently put together.
He's washed up and living on his name from 10+ years ago. He's been nothing but a stop gap at all the clubs he's been at since he left Liverpool (apart from now) and he knows that he'll be lucky to get another job at a decent club. That's why he's scrabbling round trying to save face and his reputation by blaming everyone else. He should have taken the Spain job when he had the chance.
He was game as a badger for Everton weren’t he, they were sharp with the ‘no thanks’. I’ve always maintained he’s a solid not great manager, and he’s done nothing of note since Valencia 15 years ago. They stayed up last year but so did Huddersfield with a mid-table championship team.
But it's off the back of a relegation mate, they'll still be playing catch up, their books before this years showed they were playing catch up. You can't spend 110m of the back of relegation to gain promotion and then stay up without having to play catch up as a result and Mike is extra carefull, he'll want more than recouping what was lost to get him spending, he wants the money in the bank with month to month running in the black. It's mental to expect everything to go back into the playing squad in that situation. Pardew would have **** his pants to have the sort of money he's had. He's had enough for a club like Newcastle. Now he's just expecting them to be something they're not and that's a club who'll spend 40m a window in line with his every whim. Delusional imo mate. He knew what he was getting into and done very well for spends considering their situation. It was his choice to over spend in the Championship. You say he hasn't been backed. I think he has by NUFC standards.
See this is why id don't do Net spends. that 40m he's apparently up by isn't really being factored into the 60m loss in tv money from dropping into the Championship and they've spent all that in addition. If he couldn't see the cheque book was going to slam shut then he most have been conned with Juventus' finances when he joined, either that or he's stupid. Mike Ashley is safe, he'll get very little until some hard cash is banked and they're comfortably running in the black.
We are gonna Bev to differ on this one mate, rare as that is. The club was only down one season, had parachute payments and mister profits on the likes of Sissokho to cover shortfall, they spent £40 million that year but that represented a £13million profit against sales. He hasn’t been given enough, look at what’s being spent elsewhere and the comparable size of the club. The record fee at the club is still Shearer isn’t it? That’s insane on its own. I know ours is less but we missed the Sky boom. The fees they’ve taken for Mitrovic and Merino, 2 flops and another £15million banked, if that was here, we’d be asking the questions, of course we would. Ashley is taking his money out as swift as he can hoping someone steps in to buy whilst premier league to max his return. Can I fault him for that? No, he’s no bond with the club. Do I understand why that would piss fans off? Absolutely, we just watched Short spectacularly fail at trying the same thing.
Not saying he's a crap manager, he's alright. But the type of job he's having to do now takes a certain type of manager, one he's had little experience in managing clubs in the Mags position. He used to clubs where he can buy who he wants whenever he wants. He's at the wrong club, he clearly doesn't have the stomach or the drive for the sort of club he's at now cause he hasn't stopped whinging since they went up.
Mike is running Newcastle how he runs Newcastle. Safe and he won't spend unless it's well and truely money in the bank. That money from Sissoko could be have been owed out due to Tufty's spending, they could be dealing with things like transfer instalments which aren't shown in books but all clubs have to deal with, at the same time their plus net spend you speak off may not even be at the club yet depending their instalments, depends on how their balancing act is going on. Ultimately he's hit a period where he was always going to close the cheque book on Rafa, especially after spending nearly 70 million in a championship season. Like you say, he wants to sell and has done for a long time, so why does Rafa expect him to change his way of doing things? Mike will spend again, but only when it's safe to do so. If Rafa doesn't like it he knows what he can do
If I was a town fan I'd be 50/50 whether I would want Rafa to leave now. A choice between him or a potential lesser manager but with someone who would be happy with the tools given? All depends how the players react to his strops I suppose.
I don't think he wanted to be there in the first place. He's been keen to leave since the moment that initial contract ended. He's only stayed because no one else will have him. He's been at some big clubs since he left Liverpool but he's not done it at any of them. Despite what he clearly thinks, Newcastle is about his level.
Out of his depth I think. They're a club where they don't spend much and he just can't cope. Just not cut out for football management on a shoe string imo. He's washed up now unless another club comes along with an open chequebook.
An Everton or a West ham type club with moderate spends might appeal to him but I can't see him improving them any more than anyone else can
