If we can get Rhodes, I think he'd be well worth a punt. Huddersfield are swearing blind that they won't sell him in January, so it would take a massive bid - at least £5m, probably more - which I don't see us offering. Someone like Rhodes who is much sought is worth it in terms of the market. At his age, you're paying for potential rather than track record. He's someone who could potential give a club 10 or 15 years of goalscoring, or 4 or 5 good years before being sold at a profit. The fact that lots of teams are interested also drives the price up higher than if we were the only side sniffing around.
Rhodes is definitely worth the gamble, but for what price? Sunderland fans will tell you themselves that they spent far too much on Wickham as he wasn't worth the money due to the performances he has given SO FAR.
Jol has confirmed that Trotta will stay at Wycombe for the rest of the season. He said, "It's important for him to play games. Wycombe and the manager [Gary Waddock] wanted him badly. That was good because we've got other players out on loan who, if they're not playing, I'd rather they stay here. He will stay there as long as we're fine with our strikers. There's a recall clause, so if I need him he will come back."
According to Sports online, the clubs reported to be interested in Rhodes are Celtic, Norwich, Wigan, QPR, Everton, Blackburn, Newcastle, and WHU who it is reported had their bid of 3.5m turned down this week. I agree with you Captain with this lad you are paying, for potential, and not to many looking this good ,come along very often.
This is good news. I don't think there's a club there we couldn't compete with, plus we have London and Premier League football to offer, something WHU and Celtic can't. I also don't see Mike Ashley forking out money on anyone in January.
