What was the name of the club (dissolved in 1969) that at one time was in the same league as us.

There is a cryptic link to Gillingham.

Without googling, I was trying to think who was one of the first club names that I remember reading dropping out the leagues. Names that came to my head were Barrow, Wokingham or was it Workington - I know clubs like Southport did...I'm going to say Workington then go and google it.

Hmmm looks like I was wrong, but I'm sure older members will understand why i picked the three clubs that I did.

Other than that I have no idea, unless a light switch goes on in my brain later - I will let someone else try.

Just to make it easier, the cryptic clue has a lot to do with our previous manager.
They played in the same league as us in the old southern/northern divide.
They have won the welsh cup.

I read your original question wrong. I thought you asked what club was dissolved, you didn't, you asked what name!

Me think you playing games <laugh>

Swansea changed their name to reflect the City status.

The club "does not" any longer exist under any name.
two extra clue's, they won the Welsh championship 6 times, they were also southern league champions.
But the biggest clue is the reference to our previous manager.

Ok, I googled and know the answer now, did i ever tell you I hate you grumpy ;)

Very good clue you gave actually, but also very misleading but clever none the less. But I'm not saying, the others can go work it out! :bandit:

It was interesting trying to remember stuff. When I googled the Welsh clubs, I saw Len Ashurst was at Newport County, I couldn't even remember that! I remembered him walking out on us for Sheffield Wednesday though.

I find it amazing how much you forget, how many teams have vanished, how many currently high flying teams came from humble beginnings, how for instance Shrewsbury have winning the Welsh cup in their CV, how did that happen.

Is it just you and me left on here mate <laugh>

There seem to be a lot of part time posters, some might post on other boards as well or just be too busy.
Resurgam posts more than a lot of the Gills fans. :emoticon-0136-giggl

Time to rap this one up,
For anyone who didn't work it out (can't believe there are many) the team was
Lovells Athletic.

I should point out that when I said "rap" I did mean wrap.
Just to prevent any misunderstanding, I won't be singing any time soon.
