What school in Sunderland still standing and operating as an educational establishment, or not, is said to be one of the inspirations for George Orwell’s 1984.
And for a bonus Krankiepoint give an explanation why.

I have no idea regarding the 1984 inspiration but a long long time ago I rewired a building (Langham Tower) which at the time was part of the polytechnic not a school. It did however make reference to him.
A rather tenuous link I agree but if not correct I wouldnt have a scooby.

Church High or Sunderland High School as it became until it closed. His wife went there and wrote a poem in 1934 for its 50th anniversary set 50 years in the future that's sometimes seen as an inspiration for 1984.
