I remember the first Saturday after the introduction of decimal currency, there was a stall on Lewisham market selling oranges at "3p each or 3 for 10p!" The number of people buying 3 for 10p was unbelievable!
On Decimal Day in Feb 1971 I was working as Lakenheath USA Base. When we went for breakfast in the Canteen the girl on the till had to convert Dollars to £sp and then to new pence. She was not very happy. It seems amazing that it was 44 years ago.Where did it all go??
That would get the Bank of England Monetary commitee in a right tizz! An incredible number which makes house price inflation look quite modest.
