More importantly, who will be our new penalty taker?

    I vote Davis/Ward-Prowse.

That has come across every time I've seen him interviewed. I was surprised at first, but having sat back and thought about it, I reckon it's a shrewd piece of short-term business. Good luck for next season <ok>

I remember in League One, when I told a load of mates that Rickie is good enough for England, I got laughed out of the pub.

    Well WTFILN?

He genuinely did take us to the premier league. Thank you for everything, and good luck at your boyhood club

Like most other Saints fans, im so sad for us but pleased for Rickie. Top footballer and great person - after the Liverpool v Saints game at Anfield last season Rickie spoke to me & my son outside the Shankley Gates even though he was in a hurry to go and meet his family.
Rickie took us to the Premier League - and now i would like to see him take Liverpool to the Champions League Final.
I just hope that the fixtures for next season put the Saints v Liverpool game right at the start so that we can all give Rickie Lambert a great send-off.
Oh what a sad day though.

I think that he is probably the world's most likeable professional footballer. Although I am sorry to see him go, I am delighted for him and his family. I am also happy that he leaves Saints having never had to become a bench warming, bit-part player. He will also never have missed a penalty for Saints.
A far better player than he is ever given credit for in some quarters, he is that most unusual thing; a generous striker. I hope get to cheer him back at St Marys in the coming season. I would have clapped and cheered even louder after the Man U match had I known it was my last chance to say a massive Thank You!

The main reason that Hodgson picked Rickie was of course his talent, but it is also useful to have such a positive and likeable guy around the team. A breath of fresh air as Roy described him. Sometimes teams get stale and players forget that it is an honour to play for your country....SRL would never forget that.

It's rare to encounter an elite athlete who is not only right at the very top of their sport but who also embodies all the very finest attributes of humanity. You are certainly one of those rarities Rickie and if your career trajectory continues at the same rate, you'll certainly be holding another bit of silverware aloft before you retire a happy and fulfilled man. Let's hope it's in Brasil this July. All the best to you Big Man.

Not being funny (perhaps a little cantankerous), but has this not all been said since last week on the other thread.

Seriously, when I read the title I thought he had died.

You're absolutely right. You are being a little cantankerous.;)

Strictly speaking, you are quite right, of course.

I've been more and more gutted about this each day after I woke up since it became clear it was happening, Rickie has been the embodiment of this club for the last five years and they've been great years. It shows that beyond being a great player what a great man he is that even despite how **** him leaving is that I'm still immensely happy for him to be fulfilling his dream. Really hope he succeeds and that we get to see him at St. Mary's one more time.

a great footballer and an all round lovely guy. A great player for the saints, and genuinely one of the main reasons for our successful march up the leagues. Every time we were promoted the so called experts said he could not perform at the next level. Sir Rickie proved them all wrong. When we reached the EPL again they said he could not succeed. Not only did he prove the doubters wrong, but he did no well that England could not ignore him. And then in his first touch in an England shirt he goes and bloody scores against the auld enemy! I genuinely had a tear in my eye when he scored! His is a real Roy of the Rovers story, but most importantly is his genuine warmth and humility. His interview after the Scotland game showed what a genuine chap he is, and a real antidote to some of the other England players past and present.

The biggest complement is that he is, sorry was a very worthy wearer of the coveted no 7 shirt.

Sir Rickie Lambert - always a Saint
