This thread is getting tougher and tougher to follow. I went back to LR on Wednesday to put something half way intelligent into Macca's condolence book after my initial attempt, the tribute to Macca looked like this. please log in to view this image
Lads, some superb and heartfelt sentiments well expressed here. Well done QPR. Alan was one of the good guys. I only met him once, in his shop in Bangor Co Down, about 18 months ago. Within a minute of speaking to him I realised I was talking to a genuinely warm and decent guy. My 2 minute errand lasted half an hour, and could have been all day, once we got on to football! Just a lovely person. That is all I can say. At the age of 61, I don't have many sporting heroes, but Alan is one, and a proper person fit to be a role model for my grandchildren. Well played Alan, you played the game straight.
Thanks for the welcome goldhawk. Events of the past week have put a lot of things in perspective. Alan played with distinction for an unfashionable club, ie QPR. However, as a football supporter, I look at the passion on here and see why he was loved. Too hell with Manchester United/City, Arsenal and Liverpool. QPR are obviously a club about neighbourhood and identity. support my own club, Glentoran, for the same reasons. I haven't looked at the English Premiership too closely for a number of years, because I can't identify with the clubs and players. I can identify with you lot. Good luck next year.....a new fan will be watching your progress.
That's great to hear. Exciting times at our club, but you're right about the neighbourhood and identity. The task for the club's management is to build the club while retaining its values and culture. I think we're in good hands at the moment. Long may it continue.
That's a lovely tale Korky. At least you had the pleasure of meeting the great man. It seems that everyone who did, feels touched by his greatness. He was indeed a great man.
