Well written as always. Good decent player, loyal - a word we tend not to use too much these days, QPR legend RIP Big Mac
I was a steward when Macca had his testimonial, after the game we were all lined up along the half way line and he came along the line, shook everyone's hand and thanked us all. It was the proudest moment of my young life. He'll be sadly missed
Probably my favourite Rs player of all time I remember in 1991 myself and two freinds went to Sweden for a pre season tour. We were at a game and ended up talking on the sidelines to Macca and Paul Parker we asked him for tickets to the next game. He went off and got us complementry tickets. Forgot my cousin had just moved to Sweden asked him for another ticket. Wont say what he said buy he went off again and got us another ticket. ps Macca we never told Gerry you were smoking R.I.P.
Nice one Roller. Macca is synonymous with my early QPR memories. I've been on a strange journey of memory since hearing of his death. I've remembered how I used to feel walking to a game aged 7 with my dad through the wormholt estate streets and how I used to stare at the floodlights and blink the other team into errors using the image burned into my retina. His qualities were of the highest order, a good man has been lost. My sincere condolences to those left behind. Rest in peace.
A fitting tribute Roller,he was a great man and a giant of a player for our club. This news has knocked me sideways,he will always be remembered by all hoop fans as one of our greatest players.Really hope the club do something to honour his memory!
I have not posted on this before now as i feel such emotion and respect to Macca, then still read stories about the likes of Barton. Worlds apart in my book, Barton does'nt even deserve mentioning at the moment. RIP big man, True QPR Legend.
Thanks Roller for doing yet another fitting tribute, though in tragic circumstances this time. Warm and hearfealt and very well put.
Macca in his prime would stroll into the current team, not sure if I'm happy about that or not! Imagine what we could do with him and Steve Wicks now!? Hope there is a tribute to him when the new season starts. Minute's silence or applause and a full spread in the programme would be nice. We throw the word 'Legend' around a lot but Macca was a true QPR star.
true TEAM player, let his football speak for him never heard a bad word said about him by friend or foe and he had many foes, bet they will be there at his funeral foes as well as friends knew what he was about solid, strong and dedicated a proper role model,my heartfelt sympathy to his family and close friends he will be missed by many.
I was just wondering where to upload my remarkably similiar picture to! Did you sign the Book of Condolence?
Quality, Pride and Respect . . . .3 things this man had in abundance. I don't think there will ever be two QPR players so different as Macca and our friend Joseph Barton. Can picture his unmistakable run with his chest pumped out.....the QPR badge always seemed a lot bigger on his shirt....a Loyalty that will never be repeated.....Thanks Big man...proper Rangers Legend
loved the bloke ,, will never forget the goal he scored in a cup game at the bridge , a headed goal from a corner , the same match , robinson scored a cracker over peter barota , from the half way line . beat the scum 2 -0 . a true rangers legend . one of my heroes , rip macca .
Just read your post again Roller, it's even better second time around. I still can't believe that we shall from now speak of the great man in the past tense. Gone too soon. As much as I dislike correcting fellow posters on this board, especially on a thread such as this. But IOW ranger, I think you'll find that it was (now) our very own Eddie Niedzwiecki in goal that evening. This is not meant to sound condesending either, I was there on that great night and I remember Eddie going down with cramp and Robinson massaging his legs. Three minutes later Robinson belted the ball over his head from the half-way line. Macca's headed goal was a very vivid memory of the night also. He got it in the last few minutes if memory serves me correctly.
Great minds and all that, Roller! I didn't actually know there was a Book of Condolence, so I must get myself down ther later today.
