I've found coach travel from London to Trencin for 150 Euros but it takes an age.

The trains in Czech republic are terrible. It'll probably take a week! You're better using the Student agency coach service if you're going to fly to Prague. Takes about 4 hours from Florenc in central Prague to Bratislava if memory serves correctly.

Car hire from Bratislava airport is about £30.

Our kid's pricing this thing up.

Might be a slap it on the credit card jobby.

Trencin looks like a beautiful little place.

It's a change at Prague. There are frequent coaches (around 20 a day from memory) that go from Prague all the way across Slovakia to Kosice in the east.

It appears that the 20 a day is from Prague to Bratislava and the service up to Trencin is much less regular (looks like about 3 a day)

If you're trying to do it cheaper, it's pointless going to Prague, you need to go a day earlier which means an extra nights hotel. Not to mention it's miles further away.

The limiting factor is probably the flight cost (ability to get off work earlier). Hotel costs in that part of the world are quite reasonable as are public transport costs.

Edit to add: When I went to visit Vienna a few years back I stayed in Bratislava because the hotel cost was so much cheaper and it's only an hour on the train. It is high season so I don't see flying to Prague as being much cheaper than flying to Bratislava.

Flights to all of the possible airports are pretty much the same give or take a few pence. So unless you were going to make a trip out of it and go round a few places I don't know why anyone would fly to anywhere other than Bratislava. If you have to work Thursday, you aint going anyway as you couldn't get there in time for kick off regardless.

Judging by the numbers hitting the sites it looks like there are going to be loads of folks missing out on tickets for the match

I asked my Mrs if she fancied a weekend in Prague, computer says yes!

So it looks like we will go on Thursday morning and hire a car. Then spend the weekend enjoying the sights.
