Any link for this Dave ? I don't think he's featured for Portugal since 2012 for the U21s . He got a call up in 2014 but didn't play and wasn't involved since for the World cup 2018 qualifying squad. Seems unlikely that he would be called up after the 23 man squad was announced in May ?
Can't imagine what will happen with Oliveira (contracted until 2020). He's had more loans than 'fifty shades of grey'. Nobody wanted to buy him until we came along! There's a reason for that no doubt.
Comment from DDF - 'Yep, can't see there being much more movement in the squad unless Oliveira is sold and Martin is loaned. Seems Pinto and Vrancic could go as well if today's rumours are to be discussed, with apparent Klose interest but I can't see them selling him.'
Bloody hell. Fulham now sign Rico!! What a keeper!! How have Fulham had this pull?! Have they got massive financial backers? They have signed players who should have gone to teams in the Champions League! Same with Wolves, but I'm slightly less impressed by Wolves business than Fulhams. Imagine getting promoted with those 2 clubs!? Poor old Cardiff!
Sounds like I'm on my own, I can quite easily see us selling Klose. Each and every player we have has a price tag. Klose is out of contract at the end of this season so like Pinto, last chance saloon to get money for him. Between Zimmerman and Godfrey we have decent options alongside Hanley, if we want to play 3 CB'S I'm sure Stieperman can be an option from the bench before we need to suffer Martin! Realistically I can't see Pinto getting near the 1st XI, so getting him off the wage bill is no bad idea. I would however rather see us sell him abroad, so I don't think we need to desperately take a potentially poor first off. Vrancic, would be a strange one, just gotten up to speed, however we need money, we have bloated squad, especially in midfield so I could see this happening too. Have we sold anyone yet? Bah!
Cardiff are surely planning for a 2019/20 Championship season? Murphy was their biggest signing, then it's a Championship CAM, GK, Striker and LB. Perhaps hoping team spirit and overachieving might be enough to keep them up, but looking at their squad I can see them a long way adrift in 20th, even by Christmas.
The idea of playing Stiepermann, a CF/LW converted to LB then CM, as a CB in all but the most dire injury crisis really shows how much we need Klose. If Klose goes, we can play a reasonable looking Zimmerman-Hanley-Godfrey 3ATB formation, but if we get an injury, or want to rest somebody, then we're completely incapable of playing that formation. If somebody comes in with a £5m+ offer for Klose, I could see the club taking it and trying to loan in a CB for the rest of the season. But we definitely can't afford to be without 3 senior CBs.
I would have expected Colin to have been higher up the 'Sack Race' - #wellsee Edit - Cardiff are odds-on for relegation.
Stieperman at CB was just a smidge tongue in cheek, he's played everywhere else! You are of course right, it would leave us short to play 3 CB's with no good backup, but we have Martin, not ideal clearly but given it appears Farke is favouring 2 CB's 3 front line options with Martin and Raggett recallable in January might be seen as a worthwhile gamble. Bah!
Alternatively, who says it would need to be a CB to play in a back 3? England used a FB in the back 3, maybe: Pinto, Passlack, Arrons, Husband or Marshall could do a job? Bah!
Depends if you call it "sack race" or first manager to leave. Rafa would be top, if it was first to leave. Sack.....Either Colin or Jose.
I think Colin is safe (if he wants to be). I'm convinced Cardiff are building a squad for the championship. He's not a Prem manager, that's well established from his career. If you were ruthlessly set on staying in the Prem this season, you wouldn't give him the opportunity to fail again. I think they've kept him for a promotion push in 12 months time.
Interesting stat: Since relegation in 15/16, Norwich have made a total profit of £56.9m from player transfers, nobody in the football league has come close to that. Sunderland are second with a net profit of £33.6m. Figures are transfermarkt's.
That’s not a true profit though, that is a profit in player sales, that has to be offset by the running of the club which as well documented is expensive and this money was needed for that purpose
