Assists and goals are important certainly, but Leitner's play is about controlling the pace and rhythm of play and making telling through passes into the danger zone to create scoring chances. He did that but the front players failed to make the most of them. His role was also limited by the presence of Madders ahead of him. That won't be the case this season. The proof will be on the pitch, but I still think he'll be a key player for us. Where we finish will also be down the attacking players ahead of him making the most of the chances they get.

Yeah the pinkun were directly quoting Farke, I just can't see this as being anything but a media fabrication.

Do we think there is something to be read into the fact that he didn’t list Thompson? Season loan or surplus to requirements?

I'm tending towards at least a 6 month loan to get his fitness levels up.

£3m is the going rate for a 33 goal Lg1 striker apparently according to "some on here".

My recollection was £1.5m with £1m in add-ons. So £1.5m would be my guess, less any fee received if he leaves on a permanent transfer later. Disappointing, but not a disaster.

Looking at Kasey Palmer again, I wonder if DF was referring to CMs and DMs only. Palmer is an AM who can also play WL or WR, as is Buendia, who also wasn't included on DF's list. Leitner's primary position is CM as a deep playmaker, although he can also play as an AM.

Palmer was at Derby last season though and with Lampard now the manager there, he's far more likely to go there.

So Marshall looks set to join, not an exciting addition but decent player and importantly English qualified too.

    Bah!

Bit of a surprise, as he was expected to go to Millwall. More of a sensible, solid signing rather than an exciting one. He has the advantage of being able to play at RB/WB as well as WR which fills two gaps in one signing.

"Marshall – who was also a trainee at Manchester United and Crewe – has played for Wolves, Leicester and notably enjoyed a four-year spell at Blackburn, where he was a team-mate alongside current City centre-back Grant Hanley."

The compilation of goals and assists looks good and suggests that he can play on either wing. His ability to play RB also suggests that he has the necessary defensive qualities as well. I suppose we're all a bit cautious after the disappointment of Watkins and Wildschut though.

Yes, the shirt teasers for 1st July are just that, they are really going to unvail our new 30 goal a season man in a blaze of pyrotechnics and sharp marketing slogans, his name is Boris Chickenov. And when you feed the chicken, the opposition are clucked! Remember, you heard it here first!

    bah!

After their poultry goal returns last season? Boris will start and after the goals start flying in, his signing will look like a real coop!

    Bah!

Thompson is involved in the kit launch event, whatever that's worth. So are Max Aarons and Remi. Rest are all standard first teamers.

I like Marshall a lot, and with Kenny, their set-piece/long shots will help fill the loss of Madders, along with hopefully Leitner stepping in to fill for the loss of creativity and passing range.

The only thing about Marshall is where does he play? He’s got all the assets to be a right winger and I think he has played right wing a lot, but he is very slow. I don’t know if RWers who have no pace work in our system? Does he play more central for us? Or will we play with a different system for the flanks?

Assuming we're going to be playing possession football and trying to build deliberate attacks, pace is less important. Particularly if we have a couple of others in the side more suited to playing on the counter. I guess we will see. It's hard to know what we're going to do until we have a striker!
