Carlton Morris is the only one left from the youth cup side and I don't think we have a single player from that historic Wembley victory. Perhaps Rusty. Squandered millions and talent . I can honestly see us doing a Sunderland next season propping up the division stinking up the place with anti football. No Gunn and Maddisson to bail us out .
As the General pointed out, not quite the Academy, as he came through Coventry's Academy; but what it must be good for is helping to recruit players who feel they've got something to offer when they see how JM's development has progressed under the tutelage of DF and his coaching staff!! #ohyeoflittlefaith IF we get relegated, I'll buy you 4 pints of your choice in the Queen of Iceni next May!!
Very positive stuff! I'm not exactly optimistic about next season but think we will do a little better than that! Though unfortunately I don't see us improving on last season either. It feels pretty crap to say, but with things as they are, 10th having been in touch with the playoffs most of the season might well represent a good season! That really reflects how far my belief in our clubs imidiate future has fallen, 10th a success! No Madders is a big concern and Farke has shown little evidence that he can get us scoring by any means other than Madders brilliance but I think Matthews is a good keeper and whilst Gunn is/was better, it will not be a problem area for us. Lets give it a little time into next season before we start condemning ourselves to Lge 1. I'm not really looking forward to next season in a footballing sense, or one of optimism with regard to promotion or even entertainment, more a ooo look at that car crash I hope they're all right. I can't discount relegation any more than you can promotion at this point, though I think the former is far more likely, so lets all watch the drama unfold and start shouting I told you so in a few months time. Bah!
New name into the mix, Ben Marshall from Wolves. RW who can also play RB. 3 goals and 6 assists in the championship last season, mostly on loan at Millwall. 22 appearances in total. Asking price thought to be £1m.
Confirmed - http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/james-maddison-set-for-leicester-medical-1-5565516 After a weekend of speculation the Canaries accepted a bid from the Foxes on Sunday for Maddison – believed to be for a fee in excess of £20m, that could reach £25m with add-ons. #wortheverypenny
Could see that as a reasonable, if not very exciting, addition at WR replacing Watkins. Experienced Championship player with the added advantage of being able to play RB (or WB) as well.
Still think that's a bit cheap. I'm glad it's over the £20m that everyone kept reporting he was valued at. Still not enough for me. Unless we have sell on, international cap etc type bonuses.
Given that we were asking for £25m, £22m + £2m in add-ons and a 10% sell-on clause seems Ok to me. Hopefully that'll allow us to get on with signing the players we need, like Leitner and Ducksch, and maybe Marshall as well before the pre-season starts.
That's still a record fee for a championship player with no Premier League experience I think? Agree another £5m or so would have been good, but equally it'll depend on how the deal is structured.
Yes it is a record fee. Another £5m would be great, but £5m less and everyone would be disappointed. In the end, we got 96% of what we were asking for.
I agree - Leicester is a good next step and it suits us long-term with the sell-on clause if he's as good as we think he is. Looking ahead, the fixture list is released on Thursday: http://www.skysports.com/football/n...-fixtures-how-to-follow-timings-and-key-dates
Other than £1m+ for Watkins, we do tend to be a club who get a "fair" price, rather than feeling like we are laughing our way to the bank. I'm curious to see what Villa get for Grealish. A "big club" demanding £40m on the surface, I'll be astonished if they hold out for half that.
He has my thanks and my very best wishes. Too short a time to be a legend but was a long way down the path
A true professional both on and off the pitch. Never put himself above the team or the club. Hope he does well with Leicester and achieves all of his dreams!
