Pretty much this. Not sure why everyone here seems to think he's the answer to the striker issue.

Can you name any of these strikers who have socred 25+ goals in better leagues who we can buy for 1m or thereabouts?

Either way, because you deem him a scumbag doesn't really matter when it's down to whether or not he's a good player who can do a job on the field for Celtic.

Granted, the first story that comes out about him sniffing coke or fisting hookers will let all the naysayers go, "I said that'd happen!" but until it does, and if we sign him, i'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Watt might not be the answer, but to be fair to him he's had limited chances, and often played out of position when he has played.

He should have been put in the team for a run of games after his Barca goal, his confidence would have been soaring. Lennon was desperate for Miku and Lassad to succeed (bigger wages I expect) so they always got a chance before him.

His goal against Utd at Tannadice when we drew 2-2 was top drawer. He came on and scored a double on his debut too so I think he does have something about him. It takes confidence to do that.

That's merely your opinion, for me Celtic should be considering far more than footballing ability when signing players.

He comes with a past reputation, the media will be rubbing their hands together just waiting for the first sign of trouble.

Everyone knows this is a cut-price option, biscuit tin as usual.

I remember going to see Livi v Hamilton about 5 or 6 years back. That was when Hamilton were pushing for promotion to the SPL and McCarthy was the new superstar in waiting. Hamilton were far the better team (they won 3-1) but best player on the pitch was Leigh Griffiths.

    Cool story, huh? <ok>

I dont think anyone is saying he is the answer. I do believe we'd be better of giving him the chance to show if he can

For me he has more about him. Griffiths is ok. BUt if he signs he will do alright, score a few (maybe even decent number) of goals but will never progress into much more than what he is now

Watt has shown to have lots about his game. Some of his runs and reading of the game is very clever - you cant teach that. Given a run he COULD go on to be very good. Maybe the next Hooper so we can sell on for £5m+

    Griffiths never will be that.

And sign Griffiths and Watt will have less of a chance to ever show IF he can go on

As cool as they come. Is it true though?

    1. why were you at livi v hamilton, you sure it wasnt arbroath v stenny or somethin
    2. why would you remember a 17/18 year old leigh griffiths no matter how well he played? How did you even know who these players were (griffiths n mccarthy n that)
    3. Are you former celt Mark Fotheringham?
    4. I checked for Hamilton livi games from back then and none finished 3-1
    5. what did you have to eat at half time

Answer these so we can deermine if you're telling the truth, too many unknowns for me

So you can't name any of those strikers? I get that it's biscuit tin mentality - I agree we should be looking at strikers who are proven in Europe if we want to make the last 16 a regular occurrence, but we aren't willing to spend that money, so to me he's a good player who is probably worth the punt.

Yeah, it's merely my opinion, but when it comes to getting results it's probably more relevant than he was a dickhead last year, or how many kids he has, or how he looks like he's got Gervinho's forehead, which are all things he's done BEFORE signing for us.

But, out of wonder, what else should Celtic, as a club, be considering in players they look to sign, as well as footballing ability? How charitable someone is? If they're loyal to their wife? Whether they actually practice the religion they claim to follow? If they have a criminal record? I very much doubt his reputation will drag us down, however given it's Glasgow he'll most likely be moving to, it'll be interesting to see how he deals with it.

I'd also like to add, I signed him in FM a few years back and he was brilliant. Took Yaya Sanogo from Arsenal on loan too and they both scored 35+ goals in a season <ok>

Not if we ditched the PROVEN dross that is Stokes, Samaras, Bangura...why is no one here shouting for Stokes to be launched? He's done **** all in Europe, probably earns a decent wage, and has caused his own bad headlines for the club.

Get him out the door, get a few hundred grand in, and Griffiths will easily have a spot in the team.

I would hope that if Watt does well on loan then he'll be given a chance when he returns. Hopefully he'll stop behaving like a brat and get a regular run in the Lierse team, then we can see a more mature player when he comes back in the summer.

Not sure why you think Griffiths can't progress? Gary Hooper was a similar age (22) when he came to Celtic and his all-round game improved massively over the 3 years he was here. Griffiths is fast, is a good finisher, has a decent touch and is only 23. Unlikely to be a world-beater but you could say that about every player in our squad.

I'd happily get rid of all 3 you mention. Problem is no **** would pay for Stokes and no one would even take Bangura on a free.

Even then though why replace Griffiths for Stokes - they are similar (Griffiths would score more granted)

We should dump Balde, Sammy, Stokes & Bangura

Buy 1 Decent striker and have Watt and Atajic as back up to new striker and Pukki

    1. He knew it was Livingston cause of all the roundabouts.
    2. Cause Griffiths was the oldest looking 17/18 year old on the planet. Seriously, he looks older than Bangura.
    3. He could be. What's it to you?
    4. Aye, but you're a thick ****.

    1. My cousin was up visiting and wanted to go to a match locally. Livi-Hamilton was the closest game.
    2. I remember Leigh Griffiths for his striking ugliness and being decent in a rather poor standard game. McCarthy had been in the papers a lot as being dead good.
    3. Yes, yes I am.
    4. It was April 12th 2008. Almondvale Stadium, attendance 2110. Scorers - Livi: McKay 86 (pen), Accies: Offiong 25, McArthur 39, Mensing 47.
    5. A scotch pie naturally. With a cup of tea (probably).

How do I claim my prize?

We no even signed the **** yet. Apparently what we bid was £250,000 that's a tenth of what we spent on Bangura.
