Why are we seeing in transfers nowadays where clubs agree a deal with the player but haven't agreed a deal with the club?
I've noticed this a few times recently but this week Wesley Fofana has apparently agreed a contract with Chelsea but Chelsea are refusing to meet the £85m asking price. I always thought the proper way to do it was to reach out to a club, tell them you're interested in XXX, both clubs hammer out a deal and then you speak to the player?
Surely this goes down as a form of "tapping up" by Chelsea?

Same thing happened with Honeyman. Apparently, Millwall had agreed terms in principle with him in May before the last game of the season and before we even triggered the option on his contract.
