there was genuinely a liverpool fan on twitter stating yesterday that, based on norwich signing 'third rate' players, we would be the first team to fail to win a single match in the premier league this season!! the arrogance was beyond belief, as indeed was the stupidity of the man who also stated that liverpool would 'walk' the title. now then, where's that straight jacket...
Ah yes, the 'Leeds effect'. What is its straight replacement this season though? I'm thinking a lot of people are being blinded by the size of QPR's cheque book. As for that Liverpool fan, well, what can you say?
I felt a little offended to see people saying we'll come last, I'm not expecting to survive really, but I cannot for the life of me think how a less effective manager than Lambert is going to keep a less effective squad at QPR up ahead of us!
also, the swansea thing baffles me! yes they play good football (not outstanding) but they are quite boring. they play possession football in their half then hit the ball to the flanks. its hardly rocket science! we are better to watch, certainly more adventurous. they also lost almost double the league games we did last year. DOUBLE!! they are too easy to beat and have, if anything, become weaker through the summer with the losses os pratley, de vries and borini. graham is a good striker but they'll need more than that to stay up! qpr... where do you start with them!!?? i don't think there is any point - its all been said before. what i will say is that if you discount the first 3 months of the season, where we were still getting to grips with the championship and qpr had scampered off into the distance, we were BY FAR the better team points wise in the remaining 6 months. we made up almost 20 points on them. we have also strengthened our squad the best of the three. in my opinion we are ahead of both those teams in ability and we need to make sure we can finish above one of blackburn, wigan, wolves etc. swansea will be very good at home but you have to play games away from home too!! it'll be close but i'd say we'll be fine...
I'm going to hold fire on concrete predictions until the window closes and we know who's gone where. But, as it stands, I think we might just be OK. I'd fully expect us to be bottom six or so all season, but right now, I think we're looking in pretty good shape against our likely rivals.
Yes, but I think that's largley influenced by the media. For years we've been a quiet little club that doesn't seem to do much and is located in the middle of no where. Whereas QPR are a London club, far closer to everyone and the focal point of the country. Swansea are also only one of two clubs in Wales, not many teams for the fans to choose from in Wales! This means that we're not linked with players and other clubs aren't linked with our players. Therefore meaning we keep our good players and have a better chance of signing others. The media have been this way for years and it showed in this morning's Telegraph. No news of a Premiership team signing Naughton but two Championship stories.
I just think that's the view of national newspapers in general. Also I would rather read the Telegraph than the EDP. The only good thing about the EDP is the sport!
